Daton faces Seth Gross and Ethan Lizak this weekend, two of the best riders on the country. Does he choose down to get a feel for facing these guy's top game or try to keep things in neutral as much as possible?

Think he loses to Gross however should have a big advantage against Lizak from neutral and may be able to minimize the damage on bottom.

I would think it depends on the circumstance in the match. He will try to win the match and if he is ahead he will choose down. If behind or tie he will choose neutral.
Against Lizak, I'd be surprised he takes down, even if he's losing. Better strategy, imo, to attempt to score from neutral, than going after a 1-point escape that may not come … and will tire him out in the process.

The Gross match is a different animal. I'm not sure Fix is better in any of the three positions, but is close enough that he could eke out a win. It may be a circumstance thing in this bout.

Win or lose, this is an outstanding test for young Fix to see where he's at in folkstyle.

These are two of Fix's first collegiate wrestling matches, yes you want to win but finding out where you stand against these two upper classman who you might see at nationals is more important. Getting a feel for both of them in all three positions would better serve him now.

Fix should be able to score often on Lizak. But can lizak score from their feet on a counter or some other mat/funk wrestling. I think that might be the match more so than the choice.

As for gross, his D on his feet is pretty studly too and he may let fix dictate pace to take advantage of the young guys P&V this early in the season. Then just grind him on the mat and take a RT V

I was impressed the way NS took down backpack when they met up two years ago. Not sure if Daton has that same clean/strong finish shot. We know he knows how to get TDs though. Looking forward!

He won't have to choose down vs. Lizak. The odds of Lizak choosing anything other than top are smaller than the odds of me beating Fix.

The only place Lizak doesn't choose his best position is in the National Finals. I still don't understand.

I feel like I've seen this thread posted somewhere already?

Interesting to see Lizak this year up at 133 as his cut to 125 was believed to be a major factor for his gas tank issues. He was practically dead in a couple of his matches in the 3rd period.

And yet still managed to finish 4th last year beating an NCAA champ and another NCAA finalist along the way before losing to another NCAA champ in the 3rd place match. Lizak is going to be a tough out for anyone at 133 this season.

English -105 (note the - 'minus' sign)

Whatever it's classified, it's 1,000 times easier to interpret than "wasdt's" non-punctuated drivel. Dude doesn't even bother to quote anybody, just tosses shit "out there" (and unsurprisingly, rarely gets a response).

Daton has been in the OK. State room for over a year. Unless he ahead by a few heading to the 3rd.....Cold beer says he takes down.....or should I say....Coach Smith makes him take down.
