Guys, I was looking through the brackets and wanted to know your thoughts on some potential early matches. At 125 Joshua Rodriguez vs. Nick Piccinnini (I know very little of Rod). Also at 125 Josh Terao vs. Ethan Lizak? Would we rather have Nick S wrestles Terao considering Lizak is such a beast on top.

Piccinnini beat him in the finals of Big 12s last weekend, but it is a toss up. Terao is also tough on top, but I would say yes I would rather Nick wrestle Terao than Lizak again

Picc/Rodriguez is really interesting. The loser can still get a pretty favorable run to the Round of 12, but waiting for them could be Terao/Lizak/Suriano (if not ready to go), so it'll be interesting.

Terao is no walk in the park. He wrestled Gilman tough. At one point in the match, he scored some back points when he had Gilman in a spladle. He didn't have it tight enough and Gilman got out. If I recall correctly, he rode Gilman out at the end of the match and threw some cross faces that resulted in post match extra curricular activity.

1st of all, what's the record for 'Rodriguez's" in 1 weight at Nats? Anyway.....

Sounds like Suriano will give it go [thankfully]. But as discussed, it's impossible to know how severe & what the exact measure of the injury is? Many have had their own experiences, myself included, with varying degrees of ankle trauma. Definitely a mixed bag of pain tolerance & recovery time.

My fear is with anything past a minor injury [which it appears to be past minor], is still being prone to 're-injury' at any moment with just an ill-timed jolt/tweak/turn. Then he's back to square 1 & could be out [surgery?] most of the off-season. Just never know when/if that awkward situation will arise, but considering the pool of wrestlers & the demands of this level of comp, I'll be pleasantly surprised if he finishes this tourney.

Question is: More vulnerable on his feet or on the mat? He got hurt on the mat, but I'd think neutral position is riskiest [just IMO]. That leg will got shot at & worked throughout, no getting around that. So maybe Lizak's style isn't the worst possible draw if he gets there?

3 is pretty incredible.....but no where near the number of Johnsons

I don't know... I didn't think they did any wrestling early. I thought all the matches started on 3/16, but I could be wrong.

Terao wrestled at my club through HS. Honestly I'd rather see him go against Lizak. Terao is funky , Judo background and wrestles very unorthodox. Lizak has gas tank issues and Terao does not.
