So USC fired their coach and is looking for a new one. This is headline news on the ESPN web page. Guess who ESPN thinks is the leading candidate to be the next USC coach!?

Mom and the girls will have a say in this. It's not at all out of the question, IMO.

Absolutely don’t see it happening. CJF and Penn State Football are in a good spot right now, and with a really successful season…a great spot.

It's all about the Los Angelis / Hollywood lights - atmosphere and the recruiting base. If they get the right coach, the sky's the limit. USC kind of reminds me of the period Alabama went through in the late 90s and early 2000s - really underachieving. Once Saban got there they took off. Same could happen to a USC that's been down for 10 to 15 years. Historically, their one of the top 5 to 6 programs
They’ve been saying that about USC for years and without the cheating years of Carroll, they haven’t done much in a long time.

Perhaps PSU would be better off with Nardouche. He will never be mentioned as a candidate for a high profile college coaching position. They didn't even want him back at MSU where he allegedly did his best work.

This is irresponsible journalism by ESPN. The USC coach is axed and James Franklin is immediately annointed as the most likely candidate...why. Franklin has spent eight years at his "dream job" in his home state, has a top ten ranking and a top ten recruiting class. After years of hard work, he has the program in a great shape and is supported by most rational fans and the administration.

You would have to be imaginative to convince me that USC is a better coaching job than Penn State and that the Cali lifestyle would appeal to the Franklins.
You had me until rational administration. Lol

That’s the one thing no one has mentioned. And I think the key. His girls are of the age it is rough to move to a new school, a new neighborhood. Doubt they would wanna move.

However, if one or both think they have a future in the entertainment industry....acting, singing, modeling, or working behind the scenes.....it may be just the ticket.

Seriously doubt he moves until they are out of school. And even if he does.....Sandy got this!

The timing of this almost mandates that Franklin publicly refute it. He has a 2-0 team heading into an important non-conf home game vs. a ranked foe. There's also a top recruiting class happening. This is just the sort of crap that causes distractions when you least want them.

If he doesn't refute it, then the questions and whispers persist.

Even if he refutes it, folks will be saying that all coaches say that and he can’t be believed.

Is refuting it less believable than silence? The scenario presents a dilemma.

If I'm being honest, then I think it's beyond foolish to think CJF would leave a great Penn State job for the revolving door that is USC.

There's the lure of glitz, glamor and a huge talent base, but there's the HUGE downside of a fickle and non-loyal AD, alumni base, etc.

USC is a program where going 11-2 annually (like he has frequently at Penn State) would get you fired after a few years. They'd start to have a wondering eye and flirt with someone else to "get them over the top" and win a Natty.

According to Cowherd, he’s already refuted it.

When you’re making that kind of money, I don’t think it comes down to money….I think it comes down to where you want to live, opportunity to achieve what you want to achieve, and how you feel about who you work for. I think he can live just fine on what he makes in State College….more money isn’t going to make him any more “comfortable”.
It always comes down to money. Perhaps Joepa was the exception when he turned down the Bills.

As John said, it was the Patriots, IIRC.

And why did Joe do that? Because SuePa didn't want to go. So, Franklin staying at PSU comes down to: does Mrs. Franklin want to stay?

So a person’s spouse and kids don’t play any part in this type of decision, it just always comes down to money? I would hate to be in your family.
