Every BIG loss in the Bowls, hurts the Penn State image, don't

know why this board is so hateful about the BIG. I can see not wanting Michigan to win, but Ohio State , Minnesota, and the rest of the BIG winning just helps us.
No. It doesn't. I wish that were true but 25 years in this conference says otherwise. It has never helped us. What helps us is beating OSU, Michigan,......, not by losing and having them win. It's a fallacy.
To take this a step further, how does playing in the sucky ACC hurt Clemson?

I want every BIG team except OSU & UM to win. Tired of the BTN love fest for those two, especially UM which continues to play below their talent level yet remain a darling of the BTN and FOX broadcasters.

Please explain how a Big Ten team losing a bowl game hurts Penn State's image. In fact, step back and be totally impartial. Did USC losing a bowl game hurt the image of Oregon?? After Iowa won, how many college football fans had a lesser opinion of the Ducks?

I'm not bothered by the Big Ten losing bowl games - except Penn State of course.

Then the Phucking B1G needs to grow up and stop screwing with and stopping the better teams in the conference from winning games..... The B1G is a syndicate and until it stops being corrupt.... their chosen ones will go into bowl games and lose.

^^^^^^Spot on. I’ve been parked here for at least a decade, after watching and learning how the conference truly operates to protect and promote the Big Two (scUM, OSU), just as they’ve done for countless years before we ever joined this conference. Changes are slowly materializing, but at a snails pace as the conference improves and adapts to today’s FBS college football landscape^^^^^^

I loved every minute of the whining and wailing of “calls” from the Ohio State/ Clemson game on The Final Drive this am on BIG 10 Network.
Their tears are delicious!!!

I agree and it is all about recruiting. What if every Big 10 team except Penn State always lost every bowl game they played in? The Big 10 would be quickly known as a cupcake conference and recruits would shun all Big 10 teams. Penn State needs to be known as a team that plays in a top ranked conference. Recruits don't want to play in a cupcake conference. Take a look at Narduzzi's recruits. Is that what we want? I don't think so. I root for all Big 10 teams to win their bowl games so that CJF has the best chance at great recruits.

Ohio State winning actually hurts the Big...it gives the conference the image of being like the ACC, a one team league. The SEC is looked at as being so tough because they have multiple teams that win big games and have had Bama, Auburn, Florida and LSU win NC’s. The only way for the Big to improve their image is to have other teams step up and win big games instead of just OSU.

I am very happy when we are the only big10 bowl winner

Take a look a Clemson's recruits. They are signing up to play in a cupcake conference. Worse than the AAC.

Screw the Big10 just like they have screwed us from day1 - I just loved it when we won the Big10 and that idiot Delaney could not figure out why he was getting booed mercilessly from the PSU fans - clueless clown. Wait until you see the build up for the Michigan game - I bet it gets 10 times the coverage we did and it would be the same even if it wasn’t Bama they were playing. I guess the rest of the Big10 fans must have the Stockholm syndrome because they are so used to that crappy treatment.

Yeah, your theory really makes sense for Clemson. Clemson recruiting is falling to the level of Pitt.

It only helps when ranking for bowl selection. Other than that it is better if those teams lose for recruiting.

I agree. That’s why it’s in the B1G’s best interest to administer fair and just treatment for all 14 teams. But the B1G seems incapable and/or unwilling to see the light in doing so.

It’s clear we will always need to be undefeated to get in as such, the strength of the big ten doesn’t matter

I view Clemson as an aberration. I'm not sure how Dabo does it but he is able to recruit in spite of his conference and schedule. Why doesn't any MAC team get top recruits? Why does every team in the ACC Coastal suck at recruiting? Conference prestige counts. Winning bowl games enhances conference prestige.

Calling Clemson an aberration is a bullshit response to defend a crackpot theory with no basis in fact or reality.

Bowl records don't impact prestige. No one remembers bowl records. The big ten went 7-1 two years ago and was still shut out of the playoff the following season. Still had fewer NY6 teams than the SEC and we were still behind LSU and UF with the same record.

The only thing that matters is finishing with a 1 or preferably a 0 in your loss column at the end of the season. Everything else is window dressing.

You're right, of course

but the B1G has richly earned the hate and expecting that to change isn't realistic

The Big 10 went 7-1 in bowls in 2017-18. SEC went 5-6.

Outcome in 2018-2019

Playoff teams:
SEC 1
Big 0

NY6 teams:
SEC 3
Big 2

7-1 sure was the catalyst for big things the following year.

I think one year gets looked at as an aberration. Keep doing that year after year and it gets folks’ attention. If OSU won last night and Michigan beats Alabama, there are still excuses. But do that year after year and nobody could deny the B1G’s strength and depth. Since OSU lost and I’d bet on Alabama over UM even with a reduced roster, we won’t get that respect. Oh well. Once Penn State goes 15-0 next year, we’ll get their attention.

Moving the bar. So now we are playing the long game with our rooting interests? FFS.

If PSU goes 15-0 next year, they'll have everyone's attention regardless of what OSU, Michigan or anyone else in the conference does.

This game in no way hurt the Big Ten....it was a really hard fought game between two really good teams. JK Dobbins was a man. I thought no way will he come back. Teague is nowhere near the back Dobbins is.

I didn’t move the bar. That was my first comment in this thread.
