She is not on of the masses, the 90%. She has a YouTube channel with millions of followers and some sort of fashion sponsorship. She knew what she was saying as it enhances her brand. Being a young William Buckley stressing the importance of education doesn’t enhance her brand with her teen followers as a party girl.
totally agree. that was the "brand". Not unlike a rapper who grew up in a nice environment but creates a "angry street brand". its all part of todays connected gig. drive clicks, make money. the brand may or may not be legit, but it is almost impossible to know.

Has it been established how much the kids knew about this? I thought I read most parents kept them in the dark. Otherwise, her 'thoughts about college' are f'n reprehensible; seems to me she thinks she 'got in' on her own.
IMHO would have to be a willful ignorance on the part of the kids not to know. I mean, they should know that they didn't really get a 1500 on the SAT. And they should know they didn't compete in crew and that it was odd that the crew coach was contacting them. I guess it's possible that they were kept in the dark but it's a lot easier for me to believe that they were willing participants than it is to believe that they were duped. Something tells me this isn't the first time mommy and daddy made "arrangements" for them to get something they wanted.

Yikes. William H. Macy's latest interview in Men's Health.
"Never lie. It's the cheapest way to go. Lies cost you a lot, and they’re never worth what they cost," he preached.
Despite the brief nature of the interview, he revisited this mantra again when asked: "What human qualities do you most despise?"
"Dishonesty. Self-delusion. Lack of character," he replied, even singling out President Trump as his touchstone for the qualities he did not like.
Yet when Macy was asked which living person he admires most, he picked someone who would be charged with conspiracy to commit honest services fraud just one month later.
"I married very, very well," he boasted. "It's great fun for me to watch Felicity. I love the way she mothers our daughters."

I think he may have given what he believes is an honest answer because, like so many, he sees nothing wrong here. There is a mentality by many in society that "everyone does it" and so it's not wrong. From cheating on income taxes to texting while driving, people will argue that they are no different than everyone else. I have never bought into that mentality, but I know lots of others, in all walks of life, that have. Honest men and women are a dying breed and few mourn their passing.
POST LIMITED: I am still being "post limited" on this board. After I made this post I tried to make another and could not. The most I am able to do is 3 in a day and that is spread out over 24 hours. I am not sure what the problem is. Since I joined this past Tuesday I have not violated any board rule and have been respectful in every post. I enjoy this board and love the Penn State information but continuing to battle to make routine posts is not worth the time. I am making this post my last one and am moving on. Being a new guy I doubt anyone will notice, or care if they do, but I just wanted to make note of why I am leaving.

I think the shocking part isn’t that rich people buy or influence their way into elite schools - it’s that for the guys you listed, their fathers probably made a call and a donation and that was that. Trying to buy your way in via test manipulation, cheating, and backdoor bribes just seems so much worse.
True. While distasteful one path is legal, the other illegal

I doubt that admission at these schools is a zero-sum game, particularly for big donation alumni and their children. But that is just my guess.
you may be right, I may have been thinking about the draft- which was a zero sum game
WRT the Kennedy/Bush/etc route, yes one undeserving kid gets screwed, but at least a large number of other students benefit (eg they have a building to live or attend classes in). With this new scam, absolutely no other students benefit. Big difference, IMHO. Oh yeah, and one route is illegal, as mentioned, so there's that too.
Nobody else really benefits but there's nothing that can be done about it, either. No school is going to reject a Bush or Kennedy, or the child of any president. Or, if they did, the school would look really stupid.
It's not fair but it's also not fraud, which is what is happening here.
I'd be surprised if Trump applied to Stanford. First, it didn't/doesn't have an undergraduate business school. Second, he seemed to have "separation" issues after living away from his family at boarding school for five years. He initially enrolled at Fordham and commuted from home. After two years, he transferred to Penn. Per accounts from classmates, he was seldom seen on campus during weekends.

Trump himself may have been rejected from colleges in the 1960s. But what I said is that colleges wouldn't reject a president's child. He certainly was not a president's child and unless the admissions officer had a time machine they didn't know who he was or what he was going to do. And I'm talking about undergraduate admissions.
I think the three images were a reference to families which were wealthy long before those in the photos came along. I don't believe the Clintons or Rodhams were living the high life at Hyannis Port, Kennebunkport, or Park Ave. However, as noted above, it's unlikely many "elite" universities would deny admission to a presidential child who wasn't at least an above average student. It helps those universities keep up the "elite" image.
