I thought Amos committed to the bad guys??? (Iowa that is) I swear I read that somewhere...
I thought I read that he wanted to learn high skill wrestling, that he had pushing to the edge down pat by age 5. So Iowa is not very likely.

I’d be shocked if he doesn’t verbal to Ohio State
I suspect it's Tan Tom or VT. He's apparently close to Haught, who IIRC is now on the VT coaching staff. He'd go 197 at either school and have world team level HWTs to roll around with.

But that's just a semi-educated guess.

The match I would have liked to have seen was the 113 lb. consolation between Fry and Aguilar. The final score was 29-22

The 120 final was WILD. Can't see how a match could be more fun to watch than that one.

Anthony Echemendia was working out with Zain leading up to Fargo and RBY. Also attended the same school that produced RBY. This kid just came to the USA from Cuba they said.

He said his goal would be to get into the World Class Athlete Program but maybe PSU can snag him.

Kid is a beast. I read he is a 6 time Cuban age level champion. Just defected here last year. No one knew who he was coming into the tournament and he blitzed everyone. Had Derek Fields second round who is ranked top 10 and Echemendia teched him like 2 minutes. Says he wants to compete at the Olympics representing the US. Can’t wait to see what he does in the future.

His future certainly looks bright. He was also an AZ state champ last year at Sunnyside. Claimed that he never wrestled a folkstyle match previously. That's just mind blowing.

A 28 yr. old true freshman. He had his driver's License in 3rd grade. I kid….I kid...:) He looked dang good.

He will more then likely go to Army WCAP program. He can barely speak English and can't read English so taking the SAT/ACT isn't gonna happen.Hes 19 will be 20 in a few months born in 1999

I dunno, there are an awful lot of kids here in State College who barely speak English....

Did Sunny Abe take the SATs?

Kid can scrap. No doubt about it.

Yes, the commentary made one obviously tongue-in-cheek comment about his age. We see the “I am 12” meme every day online. But now everybody wants to get all butthurt about it? And I’m not talking about the kid, I’m talking about adults.

For a community that is generally boastful about not being sensitive, these people sure love picking their spots to be whiny.

I hope the kid continues to do great. Just seeing the backlash online has been obnoxious.

Off to Fargo, I-go.

The wrestling community is insanely whiny.

Maybe this is the end result, but I dispute it being inevitable.

We had an exchange student from South America my HS SR year who barely spoke a lick of English when he arrived. If Twitter existed then, there would have been no English in them. We didn't have ESL services in rural Central PA then. He graduated with us, went home for a year, then returned to the US to attend college. (He graduated on time with a business degree.)

If Echemendia wants to consider a grayshirt, his English could progress similarly in a year.

If that's not his plan, that's up to him. Either way, it's good to have options.

Funny minor lobbying campaign on TheMat re: Amos having to go to OSU because it’s clearly the best upperweight room. Something for Cael to add to the bulletin board.

Reminds me of Chuck Noll getting the boys fired up by quoting people that said the winner of a Raiders-Dolphins playoff game was clearly the best team in the league. Noll said something in the locker room (after telling his fired up team about it) like: “I’m looking at the best team in the league”

What’s with the Buckeye Nation and their bold proclamations? Aside from Snyder our guys have been throwing their upper weights around like tackling dummies

Congrats to the kid for making it out of Cuba and hopefully he can have a prosperous and happy life in the US. I think Smalls was saying what everyone was thinking, but probably shouldn't have dwelled so long on it and/or Nomad should have changed the subject sooner. Poor kid has probably dealt with a ton of shit in his life, doesn't need the internet giving him more.

Ohio State is the best upper weight recruiting room.

Agreed. Cassar and Nickal might have something to say about the best upper weight room.

I think Amos goes heavy in College and they have Kirkvleit there for at least 4 more.

Far from a slam dunk on both accounts, we are still in the game

Amos has declared he's going 197 in college. Maybe that doesn't hold for 4-5 years, but that's the reason he's dropping to 195 this year.

He is boldly climbing the ladder of loathsome posters for me.

In real life he has be a complete handjob, right?
Must be awful having to root against other programs because you can't root for your own.

Pitiful, actually.

Worse yet for those with split allegiances to upper-midwest schools, say Goofers and Cornholers, and can't bring themselves to root for either team.
