If I had to pick one that had my undivided attention for a few seasons, it would have to be 24. Nothing like it at its peak.

Hill Street Blues was my favorite, but I would throw Twin Peaks and Prime Suspect into the mix.

...Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue were the most realistic portrayals of life on the streets as a cop...
...NYPD Blue is still running 5 days a week in reruns, just before Mad Men reruns at 6 and 7 ... :)

Southland was the best for truly depicting things from real cops’ perspectives.

how about the original Law & Order? The first half of the show was always the police part. the second part was prosecutors, always eating 5-star lunches then going to dive bars after work. every. time.

I see it mentioned in post #2 but Reno 911 is the best cop drama of the last 20 years because it's so realistic.
