UA stock down another 25% this am , over 50% for the year, head rolling, money might stop flowing.

Any insight as to the cause? Seemed like a healthy brand with potential to give Nike a run for it's money...

The PE of the stock was 80ish and they aren't growing as fast as they were.

The stock was overpriced and is coming back to reality.

The company is extremely healthy however. They earned more money this year than at any point in their history.

The earnings they reported today are also the highest in their history.

Read an article this morning that they missed on revenue and earnings this quarter and the CFO resigned. Increased competition as Adidas took back the #2 spot behind Nike

Judging from the opinion of my 14 year old and his buddies, UA is so yesterday. The cool kids wear Adidas now.

if things are so rosey, then why did they say they except a first qtr loss of $12-14 Mil on the CC?

- EXPECTS Q1 2017 OPERATING LOSS OF ABOUT $12 TO $14 MLN- CONF CALL - 9:00 AM (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) Jan 31, 2017

As for UA's stock, I think this Fortune article (CLICK HERE) does a good job of explaining why the stock dropped a good bit in pre-market trading.

Q1 is likely their slowest quarter and they seem to make only a few cents during that period year after year. Having a minor loss is not consequential.

What I know about this company is they are currently earning more than they ever have in their history.

The reason the stock is tanking is the company was growing 50% a year and this year they are only expected to grow 10%.or some smaller number.

Things are rosy, but not at the expectations of share hodlers.

aren't they or people who work for them some of the U of MD largest benefactors? Especially relative to the Athletic department? I would guess AV Williams has passed on.

I also disagree with why the stock price is down. It is down because the short sellers decided to pounce on the news this AM. Do you really think the long players would be so quick to act?

But then again, it probably isn't wise to argue with the boss.

Think its the challenge some of these footwear and apparel companies run into...have to be VERY careful about being a "hot" brand...because you can fall out of favor with kids/influencers very quickly...mainstream is not always cool.

Which is still why companies like NIKE...Ralph Lauren etc though they have had their challenges are remarkable in how they have been able to maintain consistent leadership roles.

I remember a company called LA Gear back in the 80"s? Use to attend Sporting Goods Show which at the time was held in Atlanta...

Overnight LA Gear grew incredibly...but also quickly came crashing down...same with companies like Nautica...even Tommy Hilfiger...

FWIW My boys are pretty picky about cleats and they've moved away from Nike to adidas DualThreat for Lax and football... light and comfy... particularly a discontinued 2015 model that I was lucky enough to stock up on for their next couple campaigns ... nice not having to buy Lax cleats in the spring... they've always furled their brow at UA-anything (except for their receiver-gloves)....

Now thats funny!! They were always a fashion brand...signed BIG endorsements though...interesting background on the company from early days...A lot of " partying and fun times" rolled around with those guys living and loving the Manhattan Beach, Ca scene...

It warms my heart to see those three stripes. My first running shoes back in the 70's was a pair of green striped Adidas Countries. They accompanied me to Penn State also.

My first pair of "real" running shoes back in the mid-late 70's. Nike Road Runner.

Interesting. They just built and opened and new fancy shmantzy headquarters in the Harbor East.

That's nothing, the real new headquarters is yet to be built in Port Covington. Controversially got the city to drop more 500 mil in bonds for it, too. Sagamore development is where Plank is going to make his real money, he's making whisky under the name as well (you will find the rye in most bars in town now).

I too was super loyal to Nike, but I gave Addias-Terrex and La sportiva a go while in Aspen.I have to tell you,for mt running trail shoes Nike is way behind.Plus they don't carry gore-tex

Nike helped steer Kevin Durant to the Warriors just to overshadow Steph / UA and sink their stock prices.
Their plan is working perfectly...

UA baseball stuff is nowhere near the quality, that market they are still weak in. Basketball shoes are still marginal at best, though they are improving and making more waves there. Obviously the apparel division is leading and will be their bread and butter forever but at some point people only need so many dri-fit T-shirts.

I saw the plans for that last summer in the Bmore Sun. Have they started breaking ground yet?
I thought there was an "issue" or something that was holding it up?

He's also trying to get an "uber" like water taxi service that goes from the Inner Harbor to Fells Point and Canton.
I actually thought that was an excellent idea.

I ran through several pairs of SL-72's
Year Released: 1972

The adidas Super Light 72 was ahead of its time in terms of crafting a light shoe that stayed an staple shoe for runners for the next decade. The successful combination of a mesh upper with a suede overlay that wrapped up to the toe was duplicated for years to come.

For cross country we wore Onitsuka tigers

Lasse Viren won 2 Golds wearing Tigers.

I've always associated Adidas with European soccer (which is not IMHO a good thing).

I associate UA with UMD, so I avoid it like the plague. I have one pair of winter baselayer tights that are UA, but that's it.

I'm a Nike guy for shoes and athletic apparel and have been since the 70s.

Okay, confess ... who else had a pair of Nike Cortez in the mid-80s? These were the "coolest" sneakers I ever owned.

PEs that high are like the real estate boom under a Bush. My neighbors were selling homes like mine for $650,000+ and buying bigger ones to make more money. They all got butchered. High PEs over a long period are too big a risk.

UA has a huge following. My wife kids the public school uniform for boys is UA T-shirts and sweatshirts. Just impossible to have 50% growth every quarter forever. But UA has established themselves as the brand for most kids under the age of 18 and those kids will keep buying UA moving forward. They will continue to move forward and chip away at Nike dominance as the younger generation doesn't care about Nike, they care about UA.
