fc OT Kap wanted $20 million to play in AAF......

I really have never liked faux patriotism displays like those the NFL loves so much. It reeks of marketing, nothing more.

Half of the people bitching about Kap (who may be a jackass, but not for this controversy) were the same people who didn't remove their hats and talked through the anthem until it became a thing when some guys made a political protest.

I do imagine that the NFL did collude, they hate the players union and vice versa and with that kind of employer/employee relationship ownership tends to circle the wagons. Either way, the NFL can afford the loss and settling was probably a good business decision.

Agree - certainly the path of least resistance. And, yeah, they totally colluded.

I think this just proved the whore Kap is. its like Charlie Sheen says, he doesn't pay hookers for sex, he pays them to leave, and thats what the NFL did, paid him to leave. It will be interesting to see what Kap does with the money, and how much is used for social out reach.

Did it? I mean, if teams hadn't colluded to keep him from playing in the NFL he could have earned a salary like anyone else. The hypocrisy here is mindblowing.

Plus, the photo his GF tweeted accusing the owner of being a slave owner is a huge problem for him. Unless he agrees to conform, I don't see it happening. But who knows.

It was actually a bit worse than that. The GF roped Ray Lewis and Ozzie Newsome in comparing them to Samuel L. Jackson's character in Django Unchained. The ironic thing is that the owner was gauging the degree of backlash of signing him and seemed likely to make an offer. Emptying your bladder on two team legends when they are about to sign you is pretty much a show stopper. The fans aside, there was instantly an issue between Kap and the two most important figures in the organization that shrugging and saying "it's just my girlfriend" wasn't going to fix.

Why does he have to use his hard earned money for social outreach? Do you use yours? He made his cause known and the NFL colluded to punish him for his actions. Obviously the evidence supported it because there was a settlement. I am sure he will continue to work on social issues but that doesn’t mean he has to use his settlement money to do so. The NFL wouldn’t have agreed to pay a dime for someone “who wasn’t good enough to pay”. Well played Kap, well played!

If Kap really wanted to play, instead of just be paid, he'd have taken the AAF up on their offer.

That makes no sense. He wanted to play in the NFL. He was a NFL player with NFL ability. If I want to play I would play in an old man flag football league. If it was just about playing, the NFL wouldn’t have concluded and ended up settling paying him millions.

Where’s the collision? Neither Kap nor the NFL said there was any

The NFL already did. Unless you think they’re in the business of giving alway millions and millions of dollars for no reason.

He never had to work again after his last NFL contract. Or his current Nike contract.

Surely he'll dedicate his latest windfall to helping whatever cause he supposedly supports.
I think he should have held out for more. He didn’t get near anything that he “deserves!”;);):(

Me too. Funny to see how emotional people get.

Dumb statement. If you want to say he is not as good as people think, or just average, that's fine. He was instrumental in getting his team to the super bowl. Crap player is bad hyperbole

It is all in context. I viewed his skills, towards the end of his playing days, below most backups. So "crap" relative to me or some H.S. player? No. Relative to where some believed he was, yes.

Not so sure. NFL, I am told, spent close to $100m to quell protests at the Super Bowl. You may have noticed several prime time and in-your-face events to promote MLK day. Which is fine. But there was much more than previous years. We already talked about the owner and what is going on in the ATL. The NFL lost a ton of fans the last two years and paying off Kap to "go away" may well have been their motivation. But we'll never know. Kap is bound by an NDA as is the league.

And, always have to say to keep people yelling at me, I am no fan of the police and prosecution. Just two weeks ago, my wife picked up a client who had half a prescription drug in her pocket, from her husband's prescription. She had an outstanding traffic ticket and missed a court date (no priors). When they took her to jail on the outstanding, they found the pill. She told them she had been having back spasms and her husband gave her a half pill of his prescription. The are charging her with felony possession and him for giving it to her. Cray-cray.

Agree...he'd have been a great change-of-pace backup. But he wasn't going to get $20m for a backup and no coach or owner wants a trouble-maker sitting the bench stirring things up. Just a matter of time, if he wasn't getting the snaps, that his GF would start tweeting out photos and such. Who's going to sign up for that?

Whoever started Nate Peterman should have.

In the end he used the "Elliot Spitzer" shakedown model of getting money. The courts are going to have to put an end to this technique sooner or later.

Writing was on the wall when the NFL couldn’t get his case dismissed. They could either open their books in court and lose big, or settle now and lose quietly.

Lose as in bad PR, I agree.

Can you show me an industry where companies don't call references? Can you show me a company that would hire a prospective employee when shown a social media post where he depicted the previous employer as a racist slave owner?

But the NFL was in a no-win situation with PR so settled. i doubt a jury would have paid out more...but this was something the NFL had to do.

With that, in accordance with my new policy...out!

I for one would love to know what owners were saying to each other...

Bye!

In his final season his QBR would have been around 27th for starting qbs this year. the prior season, he played half a season with a qbr that would have been 31st amongst starters. The other 2.5 seasons he worked have ranked between 7 and 16.

So even at his worst, he was still better than a back up.

NFL could’ve put an end to it by letting it go to court. Seems obviously there was plenty of incriminating and/or embarrassing content in the League’s and owners’ communication. NFL was not forced to settle.

show me where it says anywhere the NFL colluded to keep Kap out of the NFL, please.

why do you assume the NFL settled? Why couldn't it been Kap wanted to settle, agreed to something like $3 mil and just walk away because he had no case?
