Did anyone see this live? I DVR'd it in DC and it wasn't shown - at all - because of the Caps game going into overtime (nice to see my pal TJ Oshie get the assist on the winning goal though). I saw a few clips on social media but wanted to watch the whole thing. How did he do? Is he the first PSU alum to host? Thought this was pretty funny despite not being masochistic enough to watch the actual ESPn documentary....

I haven't watched SNL in many, many years but saw this article that said it was the lowest rated ever.

How many regions were impacted by late sports/hockey games? Like I said, wasn't even on in the DC metro area.

I thought he did pretty well. Would've loved a We Are thrown in somewhere to put it over the top. The Muppet skit was definitely a highlight.

I read some reviews and seems like the material wasn't consistently there for Key's very high level of sketch comedy acumen. I wanted to watch Oliva Rodriguez too; heard she was really good.

It never is with SNL. Update is always the best part. Most of the skits have a good premise, but they don't have a full story arc to flesh out in the allotted time. I.e. a 1 minute premise extended to fill a 3 minute slot.

A 'perfect' show is really tough to pull off - I'd say a lot depends on the guest though; Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake, Tom Hanks, Alec Baldwin, Jon Hamm and Melissa McCarthy always seem to do a great job; and it's really good when former cast members show up to host (for the most part) - people like Bill Hader, Steve Martin, etc. SNL has waned a good bit since the early 10's when they had a really strong female cast and could bang out a lot of really good digital shorts.

You missed nothing. Huge waste of Key's talent. FWIW, I'm not anti-SNL as a rule. But for me, this entiire season has been a bummer & last week is the low-point to date from what I've seen

Key's skits were built around his character strengths.

But the skits were still pretty bad. The Jordan one was good but just went too long.

Muppets one was ok, though likely only meaningful to an older audience.

The pimp in the bar one was stupid. Same with the DJ one which seemed to be a rip off of old Marty and Bobbi Culp skits.

I actually thought it was a very good episode, one of the highlights of this season for sure.

EDIT: IMDB is on my side, too. According to its user ratings, this was the highest-rated episode since Dec. 12 (Bruce Springsteen and Timothy Chalamet) and fourth-highest for the entire season.

Elon Musk’s highly rated episode surely didn’t help Keegan. When lots of people tuned in the week prior to Keegan’s show and saw a shitty program, the chances of them coming back to watch again were slim. They missed a huge chance to regain some old fans and blew it.

Like Keegan, but thought it was unwatchable. My wife always likes it and she wanted to watch update and turn it off after 1/2 hour

That’s what happened with me. Couldn’t suffer through two weeks in a row.
