FC: Pitt suspensions

I crunched some numbers and had Pitt winning by 35 because Franklin can't coach. After these suspensions, I still have Pitt winning, but only by 30.

You have to wonder what the Hell Whitehead and Wirginis did to get 3 games when Bookser ran from the cops and was arrested by gunpoint?? Rape? Murder? Robbery?

Pitt was going to get thumped by OSU and PSU anyway, do not really a big deal. At least they will be motivated when they come back to keep Pitt from starting 1-3 or 0-4

Long story short, this is why you don't send kids to Oakland. Nothing but trouble

PITTSBURGH—Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi announced disciplinary actions for four players prior to the Panthers' opening of training camp on August 1.

Senior defensive end Rori Blair has been dismissed from the program for "conduct detrimental to the program."
Junior offensive tackle Alex Bookser will be suspended for the season opener for his involvement in an offseason legal situation involving a motor vehicle.
Senior linebacker Quintin Wirginis and junior safety Jordan Whitehead will both be suspended for the opening three games of the season for violation of team policy.

i thought whithead had a substantial injury at the end of last season so I would think he wouldn't be back till the fourth game maybe anyway

Interesting about things like suspensions and injuries, etc. Last year, we played Pitt with maybe our best defensive lineman(at the end of the year at least) on suspension, although it was not announced like this. We also ended up playing them without 4 defensive starters. Those losses greatly affected the outcome of the game. This year, Pitt loses players. My philosophy has always been that things like suspensions, injuries, etc, even out over the course of a few seasons. Last year, PSU played much of the season short handed, while this year, there are more than 30 days until the opening game of the season, and already 2 out of our 12 opponents, will play us without 4 or 5 of their key players on the field.

Allow me to add, that our "best" defensive backfield player, objectively according to national services, is Marcus Allen, rather than John Reid, although we love Reid and we feel he is a great player in his own right.

We're going to see defensive holding on just about every play and have Narduzzi complaining that it's our receivers fault. Hopefully they have EMTs standing by for when he bursts a few blood vessels. Pitt should have at least 200 penalty yards come September 9th.
That's really funny, but......I can't disagree ...a Shakespearean tragedy developing.

Rori Blair's dismissal from the team is the one that will affect their season. He was a returning starter at a position that they don't have much quality depth. The 3 game suspensions won't affect their overall record. They will still beat Youngstown and lose to Penn State and Oklahoma St. Like others said, what did they do that their punishments are more severe than Bookser's?

I see this as a Pitt advantage. Players tend to rise up d play better in the face of adversity.

From reading, apparently there was some discretion allowed in Bookser's suspension but there was none in the other suspensions.

I don't see anything Pitt does as an advantage against Penn State this year. Maybe James tunes into the Pitt board ocassionally and perhaps sets up a few power point sessions with the team about the Pitt obsession with the University ped enablers culture.

I just went over to the Lair and to be honest, I have not seen that level of justification and insanity, since, well, ever. Unfortunately that's five minutes I'll never get back. Anyone who criticizes our message boards, need only go over there for literally 2 minutes, and when you come back here, it feels like MIT/Harvard by comparison. Beyond stupid.

Some absolute gems over there. Franklin is a used car salesman and Narduzzi has integrity....Kam Carter says hello you dumb f**ks.

"I am willing to bet if you asked a panel of NCAA football experts they would rank Pat Narduzzi much higher coach in prestige, accomplishment and more importantanty ethics and ability for program building future. Franklin is generally not well thought of in major football circles and I see him fired or back on the hot seat after last years luck fest 11-3 season. They win 7 games at most this season and we beat them down again this season."

I would bet him $100k on each of those. It's just pure gold over there.

For any Pitt lurkers, just know that I'm having a few drinks and a lot of laughs with family and friends right now at your expense. Lolololol, sPitt. Lololol, 5b. Lololol, Pedsburgh.

Agree, and for the first time in a long time, we have depth in the secondary. Luckily, It makes losing him much easier. That said, I still think he was/would have been our best player on the defensive side.
Rather than lament about just exactly who our "best player" would have been, or is, or will be, I think the right thinking here is who our "best secondary" will be. Our best secondary will not only be very good, it will be the best it has been in a very long time. There is more talent now, ready to play and perform on the field, than there has been in maybe 7 or 8 years, perhaps longer. John Reid will be on the sideline, helping everyone out as an extra assistant coach, and his intelligence for the game, will also come in handy. There is a lot of experience that will be on the field, in fact, PSU may actually start all seniors vs Akron on 9/2, and it's been awhile since that has happened. There are play makers in this secondary and there is depth also. We might even see a few more interceptions this year, and I'm willing to bet that we might be surprised at who the players are, that will make those plays.

Christian Campbell, Reid's replacement, is a player.

And Wade is pushing him very hard.
Wade is the real deal. Has the physical and mental tools. He is going to be very hard to keep on the sidelines

Whitehead is now only a good but not great player. He wasn't even very good last year according to the Lair. The mental gymnastics are incredible. Just like Lamont Wade. They never really wanted him anyway.

Gang Pitt is going to be fine. According to the lair, they have a bunch of 3 star true freshman and sophomore diamonds in the rough ready to tear things up. Narduzzi has this all figured out...

I can't wait to watch the dumpster fire on the lair this fall as reality hits them. Narduzzi is a used shoe salesman

pitt athletic supporters wouldn't trade their place with Penn State or any other school. You see, while it is unfortunate that these kids were selfish, putting themselves above the program, the bigger point here is that nardoozie and pitt have higher standards and and are more ethical than other programs. These kids would be playing at Penn State, for example.

In other words, when pitt thoroughly shits the bed this season, pitt athletic supporters can fall back on their higher standards and ethics, which of course is total bullshit.

At any rate, determining Bookser's suspension before the case winds thru the justice system is playing roulette.

Pitt's decision to take Kam Carter and Hodges' tells you all you need to know. It's all about football at Pitt they just aren't very good at it. I love the excuses flying on the lair. High quality entertainment. Hope they enjoyed their 8-5 picnic last year...that will be remembered as the good old days

WVU's recruiting is going to get a bump if Pitt crashes and burns this year. I could see some of their local commits giving WVU a second look if things get real ugly, which they will.
