You need to read Chains nonsense at the bottom of the 1st page of Suspensions, if they didn't zap it. It's ridiculous about a player who was drunk at THON and was "thrown out". It's BS. I'm not naming the player and no one else should, because it's total BS.

Rather than lament about just exactly who our "best player" would have been, or is, or will be, I think the right thinking here is who our "best secondary" will be. Our best secondary will not only be very good, it will be the best it has been in a very long time. There is more talent now, ready to play and perform on the field, than there has been in maybe 7 or 8 years, perhaps longer. John Reid will be on the sideline, helping everyone out as an extra assistant coach, and his intelligence for the game, will also come in handy. There is a lot of experience that will be on the field, in fact, PSU may actually start all seniors vs Akron on 9/2, and it's been awhile since that has happened. There are play makers in this secondary and there is depth also. We might even see a few more interceptions this year, and I'm willing to bet that we might be surprised at who the players are, that will make those plays.

I don't disagree with what you're saying. I look forward to watching our defense improve this year and will enjoy the comfort of depth in the secondary for years to come.

The only bright side to Reid's injury is we get him back for 2018. Good chance he would have left for the NFL after 2017 if he had a good year. We essentially traded 2017 Reid for 2018 Reid. Reid and Wade as our starting 2018 corners sounds pretty good.

John Reid on the field is a setback, but John Reid on the sideline is a benefit.

Seriously, about "The Lair". That was the first time I have ever gone over there to see that board. I hadn't realized what everyone was saying about it. It has to be seen to be believed, it's just insane how incredibly stupid and sociopathic that board is. Not just one or two of them either, just about the whole board. It's actually sort of creepy when you realize that this is their fan base. One time was enough, I can honestly say that I don't need to ever go over there again. Once you see it, you cannot "unsee" it.

What I think is a uniquely Pitt response is their instinct to look around and blame other schools for not caring about drug testing, to claim no one else would suspend players for team infractions. Which is easy to disprove and frankly laughable. Very strange mindset.

Most schools, something like this happens (and we have had our share, Sickels sitting out a half for missing a class, Cothren sitting the first four games last year, Bowen, Blacknall sitting out the Rose Bowl, etc)...our response is:

1) This sucks. How much will it hurt us? Who can step up?
2) Moronic move by the player.

Do you see us wailing and moaning that we are the only team that disciplines our players? As has been painfully obvious for a long time, broken thought processes from that fanbase over there.

They don't realized how close they were to a losing season. Meanwhile PSU was the closest team in the country to the playoff.
