I remember that game. It was the definition of winning ugly.

...we took our family and my in-laws...
...scheduled a week there but it was so much fun we added 3 extra days and came home after New Years...
...did all the touristy things, stayed at a hotel on Waikiki Beach... visited the Big Island and rented a convertible to drive completely around it...
...our initial flight out of Philly was cancelled due to a blizzard in the Midwest... we were ticketed to go Philly to Chicago to Honolulu... they rerouted us Philly to St Louis to San Francisco to Honolulu... because of the inconvenience the gave us all first-class tickets on the SF to Honolulu leg... on a 747... quite nice... lots of great memories...

Yeah, really. The board would be up in arms over a start like this nowadays.

Two recollections from this article:
1. Joe had some mediocre seasons, mixed in with many excellent seasons.
2. Joe and his assistants switched player positions more often than we see now -- sometimes with good results.

I remember watching that game at my grandparents house. Tiny black and white TV upstairs in the bedroom with rabbit ears. They kept talking about Joe's outfit but on the black and white TV with not the greatest reception, you couldn't really see what was so crazy about it.
