First date with your wife or girlfriend

Lunch at the Corner Room. I was hungover like nobody's business so barely ate my food. Walked her back to her apartment in Hetzel Plaza. Conversation was running dry and things were getting a little silent type awkward. There was a Victoria Secret's catalog on the counter and I mentioned something about it out of half desperation and it sparked the conversation and now 25+ years later.
I used to regularly pound some chick in Hetzel Plaza about 25 years ago. She used to complain about her awkward/ shy / bad conversationalist boyfriend who used to get uncontrollably wasted.

As a cadet in 1974, my future bride and I had our first "date" when we attended an Army-Penn State football game. My Black Knights took a 14-0 lead before a Nittany Lion onslaught crafted a 21-14 win for the visitors. Now forty-four years of marriage, four children, five grandchildren, and going strong.

Work lunch. Walked her back to her work and asked her to go out that Fri. She said she was busy. I said how about Sat. Busy. Ok I will call sometime to set something up. I had zero intention of calling. 2 days later she called me saying her roommate called her crazy for choosing her plans over a date and that she was open either night. 5 years dating and 22 years marriage. Kids, dogs, cats, fish, complete happiness.

We met in an elevator in a 3-story building. Eyes met - something very familiar. I was in love at first sight. I made a stupid joke about the baby elevator some day growing up and moving to the big city. I introduced myself and learned she actually worked on the same floor but at the opposite end of the building. She later stopped by my office and asked about lunch. We are both Italian and Lithuanian and 3rd generation Americans hence the familiar feeling. Four kids, three dogs, and a fun life ensued with the love of my life.

My mother’s sister met her future husband when they were crossing M Street in Georgetown in opposite directions. He made a U-turn and asked for a date. She can’t date guys her parents don’t approve of so they took a cab to her home and he met her parents, my grandparents. Great story, turned out really well.

Met my wife of 32 years while camping with a group of mutual friends at Raystown. She was recently wed and with her husband who was a friend of a friend. After some moonlit skinny-dipping i ended up sleeping with her best friend that night in a small tent. Ranger visited the site and made our friends collapse that little tent while we were in it as they couldn't get our attention and the site had a limit to two tents. Traveled back home the next day with her, her husband, and the friend and spent the day and evening at their apartment. Learned during discussion that she had found out she was recently pregnant.

Fast forward three years - our first date was at a friends party. wasn't actually a blind date - more like blind sighted. Found out she was separated and in the process of a divorce. Started our relationship that night and married 15 months later - been a wild ride a times but could not have been luckier in my life's lot. We have raised 5 kids together and have been very fortunate together!

My stand by for the “what did you do on your first date?” question may not be appropriate here.
But.....
On our first date, I offered my honor, and she honored my offer. The rest of the night it was honor and offer (sic).

My mother and father used to ride the same city bus in Brooklyn to different schools every day. My father never talked to her but became friends with her brother. My father and uncle (mother’s brother) went out one Thanksgiving Eve when they were 18 or so and my father woke up on their couch. My grandmother had to wake him up to send him home. I believe she was less than enthused when my parents started dating a couple of years later.

My wife and I worked together for three years at one of the then Big 8 accounting firms. Her first week I asked her, as part of the project team and low member, to do what turned out to be an all nighter photo copying presentations for the next day. She still liked me. LOL.

She was in a serious relationship with a med student but I got her to do stuff with me as friends (show, party at my house, dinner, etc). I have never dated anyone I worked with and did not want to go there.

She left and moved back home after a breakup. I left for a position in industry. I called her to say hello ... she said she had to come back to town for a couple days. Our relationship blossomed from there.

We have been together for almost 29 years, married 19. Moved 5 times for my career. She has adapted to every move and been supportive of my career even when she had her own to manage.

She is very strong willed .... sometimes I wonder if I am too close to the hot / crazy line on the datability chart! LOL.

Kudos to her roommate! :)
