Five Rut players, including "Nadir of my Career" Barnwell, charged w/felonies.

I don't like Rutgers one bit. But, I hope we beat them on the field. Scandal isn't good and I'm not going to gloat.

Don't know very much about Rutgers but I do know one thing - their Turf Grass program is second to none. In fact, when I was in the indusrty they were by far the best in the world. Granted PSU was good and Dr Deutsch had the "Penn " creeping bents along with other "Penn" cool season grasses. But Rutgers had Dr Reed Funk who was hands down known as the best turfgrass breeded in the world and ultimately handed over the reigns to his protege Dr Bill Meyer.

Perfect. All the other BIG schools can play football and Rutgers can be grounds keepers.....

Penn State has an outstanding turf grass program.

The BTN should lick its wounds and ditch this scumbag, historical loser of program right now. They bring nothing to the conference whatsoever. Just get rid of them.

Other than the NYC market, your post is spot on.

Exactly what I was thinking, just kick them out effective immediately. Then invite Syracuse to join in their place. Threatening to take their bowl money is an empty threat, because what are the chances they even make a bowl game? There isn't time to perform any sort of in depth investigation, we demand swift action.
Very insightful and you must have put a lot of thinking into that thought. I think you may be on to something. I could see this happening immediately. I've seen schools removed from conferences because players have been arrested. Never happened here but it has happened. I think Western Washginton was thrown out of the PAC back in the 50's

Ummm, no, PSU pulls way bigger market-share in both NYC Metro Area, including North Jersey, as well as all the South Jersey markets tied to Philly.

How does Rut bring the NYC market in? I always heard that ND and PSU were the two favorite teams among NYers. NO? What about Syracuse?

Interesting since that was always the biggest reason RU was mentioned as being added.

Yeah I still don't see how adding the distant third most popular team in the NYC market gets you a hundy mil in new revenue. Gotta see those spreadsheets. MD is a different story--they have actually won before.

What did they win exactly? Basketball?

Except that article and, even more so, the one on which it's based, were so wrong that it's hilarious. Rutgers and Maryland aren't carrying their weight financially. Eventually they and the other members will benefit from the re-negotiated first tier rights deal in a few years. Then everyone will pat Delany on the back and say what a genius he was when the reality is that the coming financial windfall would have been realized without the two interlopers and the per capita share of the twelve would have been higher.

Sadly, these incidents now happen at virtually all P5 schools. Increasing number of players are thugs who commit felonies before and after their entry into the NFL. It has become a game for violent sociopaths who ultimately will bring the demise of the sport.

It's the differential in how much per subscriber you get. The way the current cable deals are structured, if you carry BTN on your system you pay something like .20 per subscriber per month. But if you have a B1G school in your state, you pay something like $1 per subscriber per month. So, even if BTN was already in every cable household in NJ, with millions of subscribers it adds up to a lot of extra revenue. And supposedly this was extended into NYC for Rutgers as well, although I'm not certain, which would significantly up the ante.

Then why did they replace the natural grass in High Point Stadium (or whatever it was called back then) with Field Turf? If they were the best, I would think they wouldn't need to do that. The Beave has outstanding natural turf.

If you want a lesson on human nature, take a peek at the Rutgers board. Some GREAT comments over there:

Here is my personal favorite "Flood would not have any idea of an active police investigation"

or the thread titled "So much mis information being reported"

Stunning irony!

Flood runs that school/town/state, he HAD to know and be actively involved in a coverup.

Uh, no, no cable comp-any in the metro NYC area is paying $1/subscriber, not even close.

When the BTN launched it was able to get those sorts of carriage fees from local/regional cable companies in the Midwest and PA. Deals subsequently negotiated with the big boys (Comcast, TWC, Verizon et al came in for substantially less). Contracts for the NYC and DC areas followed that pricing.

Delany has Jersey roots. He should know how to fix this thing called Rutgers and handle "mistakes". Bada - Bing! and a "Tock-a-Dah"!

Since you apparently aren't aware, the Big Ten already had the NYC market before RU joined. I've lived in the market for 20+years and I can tell you Penn State games were *always* televised on either ABC or ESPN/ESPN2 before the expanded BIG was formed. In fact, we usually had access to one "prime" ABC Big Ten game and simultaneous ESPN/ESPN2 Big Ten games on football Saturdays. The NYC market was never an "issue" because Penn State and ND were and continue to be the top two draws. There's a reason why RU and their former Big East members were mostly relegated to the lesser networks (e.g., ESPN3) or lame timeslots (Thursday night football), their ratings sucked. What drives ratings? I think you can figure it out.
