Fleming not too kind to PSU

Agreed. You might recall I posted an observation that was forwarded to me by an old teammate who still lives in Catawissa. He told be that Mom was quoted as saying she was prepared to move to what ever area Julian committed to. His comment was, I don't think she's moving from Elysburg to State College. I figured it was over then. Some here belittled the comment saying things like "who is he MacArthur?"

If so, I thinks she's going to find the cost of living higher in the Columbus-area than Elysburg.

This was awhile back. At the time, I thought of Clemson. What was significant to me, was the fact that PSU had lost the front runner spot.

Jebsus. Why would a guy want his mother to move close to his college? Is she still wiping his butt after the morning dump? Cut me a freaking break.

A sneaky low blow. I love it true or not. Now I just wish that we could all move on from our amateur psychoanalysis of the convoluted ramblings of a teenager.

Just anecdotal evidence of course, but if you follow Ohio State message boards there are posters every so often who come on and admit that they know that OSU pays recruits because x, y, z and they are ok with it because "everyone cheats". Can't prove anything and the NCAA doesn't give a f*ck, but I'm not going to worry about hurting their feelings.

This is a mother quoted from a casual conversation. Will she do anything of the sort? I have no idea. I doubt it. My point in quoting her, was simply to contribute the information and what it meant to the long standing belief that PSU was the leader in Julian's recruitment.

Good to see we've hit our salty tears quota when losing a recruit to OSU.
-SEC type bag man
-He doesn't care about education
-OSU doesnt translate recruiting success on the field
-We don't need him anyway

It's all BS, fact is we need to get these types of players and win on the field vs them. Only to PSU fans and homers do we have an education edge and moral superiority. To recruits the only gap is that OSU is expected to win every game and send their stars to the NFL. We can do both of those things as well, and the gap should start to tighten, but it's still there

Third post and you come out with a slam against posters on this board and a backdoor compliment to OSU....and you use “we” when talking about Penn State. Not really even a good attempt.

This may all be true. However, is it just possible the kid wanted to play in a more urban environment than SC offers? Maybe this is the actual answer and all the rest is just noise. Guess we may never know.
Columbus Oh is a more urban environment??? Ok sure

You can go back to the late 50s when all American fullback, bob ferguson, turned in a type written paper for his in class writing class. That was reported in Sports Illustrated at the time.
Gordon Gee, former chancellor, saying, when asked he would fire the football coach, are you kidding the football coach would fire me (paraphrase).
It doesn’t matter these days, the ncaa is completely impotent ex- you know who.

Recruiting at the Ohio State was outstanding during Urban time, no doubt. It appears that they are still outstanding. Michigan is trying to catch up including everyone else in BIG10. It is, what it is. No need to have sour grapes! It hurts to keep on losing recruits but keep in mind your comments on this board are read by recruits. Too much self flagellation! Why? Penn State has some exciting victories even during difficult times. Enjoy! Indeed, we had some close losses. These losses hurt. Penn State is slow in changing to changing landscape in college football. I trust Coach Franklin, he must have figured it out by now and adjusted accordingly. For the glory!

Just saw on twitter that Gaige Garcia (who sports #23 for The Tigers, no doubt to honor my career there), has been offered by Michigan. He has no rating and I've been told he will likely wrestle in college. No intent to demean his football abilities.....but does anyone find this strange? Does it mean Jimmy has reason to believe Julian is still in play?

So I looked at his twitter acct. Any chance its a PWO??

Of course he and/or mom got paid. She can now afford to live in C-bus and smother her kid if she chooses.

Wolve will soon opine that he will be an NFL 1st round pick after Jimmah develops him.

I’m thinking instead that he didn’t want to compete for playing time as it wasn’t guaranteed and that de doesn’t want to run into his ex-girlfriend. I hate to say it about a kid, albeit he’s pretty much an adult, but with these remarks he sounds like a tool.
I completely agree. He had an easier path to play at OSU and lower academic expectations. I doubt he'd fit in Penn State. We'll see how smart his decision is in 3 years when he declares.
Easier path at OSU
Buckeyes have the best receiver Corp in the country.
You guys are a joke !

Ditto... the world turned after his breakup. Crazy stuff. Good luck in Columbus. Hope he kills it on every Saturday but one per year. He’s putting a lot of faith in a new coach and a diva QB...

Maybe PSU should check into why all their recruits are leaving ? 2020 class is falling apart

One poster claims that. Look Fleming was never coming to Penn State and would have gone to Clemson if not OSU. So we had a few OLinemen decommit and recently gained a few terrific juco recruits that have no rating yet and the team ratings tanks. It’s only June. This recruiting class will be just fine and CJF will continue to recruit at a high level. The gap between OSU and Penn State is virtually closed from a talent perspective. Looking forward to competing against OSU and scUM this year. The Big Ten Title is anyone’s guess , although the media thinks it’s going to be Michigan because of a returning QB.

Suckeyes have the best receivers in the country ? They don't even have the best set of receivers in the B1G. That distinction goes to Jim and UM and it's not even close.

You truly are delusional. Let's see how UM's receiver stats look by the end of the season. It's always the same thing with you guys: Beat your chest and talk a good game, then fold under pressure. Jimmy hasn't proven that he can develop the best of anything up to this point. "But this is the year!" Yeah, right.

There is still a huge talent gap although it's been about cut in half over the last few seasons. For the upcoming season, the freshmen through senior recruited classes are as follows:

School / 5 stars / 4 stars / 3 stars / 2 star & below

Ohio St / 12 / 60 / 17 / 0
Michigan / 5 / 53 / 44 / 1
Penn St / 5 / 47 / 34 / 2
Nebraska / 0 / 23 / 69 / 1
Mich St / 0 / 18 / 67 / 2
Wisconsin / 1 / 8 / 72 / 2
Maryland / 0 / 18 / 71 / 3
Northwestern / 0 / 2 / 74 / 0
Iowa / 1 / 5 / 83 / 3
Minnesota / 0 / 4 / 86 / 4
Indiana / 0 / 3 / 87 / 3
Rutgers / 0 / 4 / 77 / 8
Illinois / 0 / 5 / 79 / 9
Purdue / 0 / 5 / 84 / 10

It’s way more than cut in half by those statistics, unless you are strictly going by 5 star prospects, including your untested, rookie transfer QB. The vast majority of both rosters are made up of 4 star and 3 star prospects and PSU has significantly closed the gap. Our starting QB is experienced/3rd year in the program and was an elite 11, 4 star prospect out of Cincinnati Saint Xavier HS. Top QB in Ohio BTW

We’re loaded at RB, TE, WR, OL with top 4 star recruits and depth that has finally been achieved after the ridiculous sanctions meant to bury the program for years. PSU’s defense will likely be better then the offense and has been rated as the top of the BIG by many preseason forecasts. Speed and depth across the board. The last 3 years have been been decided at the end of the game between PSU and OSU and I don’t see it any differently this year in the horseshoe. And remember, you’ve got an untested rookie Head Coach now instead of UM. James Franklin has earned his keep at Vandy and now at Penn State. One Big Ten Title and now positioned to compete annually for more.

You’re wrong. Jimmy is the best at planning overseas trips, hands down
Went isn’t Wolve delusional?

I agree that we are closing the gap a good bit but the recruiting class numbers bear out that there is still a sizeable talent gap.

I estimated the gap roughly cut in half from a few years ago.

For the 2019 season, the 4 years of recruiting classes that comprise freshmen through senior will have Ohio St with 20 more 4 and 5 stars than PSU or 30% more 4 and 5 stars than us.

Last season the gap was 27 4 and 5 stars or about 40% more for Ohio St.

In the 2017 season the gap was 30 4 and 5 stars or 50% more for Ohio St.

In the 2016 season the gap was 38 4 and 5 stars or 57.5% more for Ohio St.

In the 2015 season the gap was 41 4 and 5 stars or 66% more for Ohio St.

So the gap has gone from Ohio St having 66% more 4 and 5 stars in 2015 to only 30% more in 2019. That's why I said the talent gap was still significant but cut about in half over the last few years.

By the way, there is no way PSU should have even been in games with Ohio St for most of this period. They just had way more talent. But that is over. We are still at a disadvantage but it is close enough that we should be competing. The fact that we already have been is really pretty remarkable and speaks volumes about Franklin and staff.

Something to consider. How much talent is ENOUGH talent? There comes a point where individual goals strangle team progress. We've seen some instances of draft status ending college careers mid-season. It takes bricks and mortar to build cohesive teams. Too many highly touted recruits can make the locker room very crowded.

Please stop this pedantic nonsense. You sound like an ex-coach for gosh sakes!

Perhaps, but my guess is that every coach in the country would love to have too much talent. Seems to work fine at Alabama. Maybe Florida St could no longer handle it.
