Sounds like a 2-3 Zone to me on Wittlake.
We'll have none of Boeheim here.

To Flo: When football rankings are done during pre-season, is the impact of freshman starters left out of the analysis? If someone has a 5 star QB recruit, is the team ranked where they would be if their 5th year perennial backup, who has failed miserably in a few spot starts, was the starter? That's what you're doing when you leave out the points a freshman wrestler is likely to accrue for their team. Or don't consider the value of bonus point projections. Of course its not an exact science to predict these things but when you don't try, you look silly. Be conservative if you want but don't leave out stud recruits all together for rankings.

Rankings have always been and will always be a combination of the impact of returning athletes plus the perceived potential of new recruits. Doing anything else is pretty much a waste of energy.

Any Iowa mentions? I haven't had time to listen to it yet.

Going from memory, but I don't think there were any Iowa mentions. The recruiting piece was a really, really short segment on FR, so I wouldn't read anything in to the lack of Iowa mentions. Only a few guys were discussed in the segment.

It will be interesting to see how Flo handles recruiting for this year's seniors over the next few months. They have their big signing announcements show in November. I suspect they'll be relatively muted about the guys that are announcing on the show (discuss where they are visiting, but not offer any hints or opinions).

Just said Berge and Whittlake will be visiting PSU after WNO, Fix was there last week( willie did say that Fix is itching to announce his commitment). Warner will be at tOSU this week and Courtney was at Nebraska last week. Also Singletary and Romero where at tOSU last week.

disagree.. ranking someone who hasn't wrestled yet is prognosticating in my opinion. Bottom line is it simply doesn't matter. We've all heard the BS with pre-season football rankings.

"Fix is itching to announce his commitment"

Can take that either way, so which is it ?

A) He is Okie State all the way and just checked PSU to be 110% sure, and now wants the process over ?

B) Cael & PSU won him over, he wants to announce it to the world, but instead he has to wait another two months and deal with all the local pressure pulling him to Okie State.

What is your guess ?

Ur guess is as good as mine. I still think OSU, but wouldn't be shocked if it was PSU. I also think that the fact he's waiting another 6-7 weeks to announce favors OSU.

I think I read that Fix is also visiting tOSU in the near future. As much as I'd like to read more into the PSU visit than I will, I still will be shocked if he picks PSU. There are just so many factors pointing to OSU - not the least that it has been reported by an OSU insider that Fix (and Gfeller) were offered near 100% rides at OSU. If that is true, I feel like if Fix picks PSU he will likely be out of pocket - it may not be huge, but still most likely something - to wrestle here. Combine that with distance, Smith relationship, other relationships - very tough to overcome. Hope I'm shocked.

Guessing he favors OSU.

But waiting seems to be a strategy that is used when an athlete doesn't want weeks or months of hassle from the locals, if he plans to announce against the local team.

Hope that Mark Hall had a positive impact on Fix, regarding PSU.
Mark Hall made the best decision, by leaving his home area and joining the Nittany Lions. Perhaps he helped Fix understand that it can be the wisest decision for his career.

"Fix is itching to announce his commitment"

The actual quote was:

Willie: "He's supposed to announce on signing day -- I know he's kind of itching to get it out there, but, hopefully, he doesn't break the bubble before that date."

Before that they had mentioned that Fix had visited Ok. St. a few weeks ago, and that coaches have been in to visit him, and that he visited PSU this past weekend. Vais/CP added that everyone thinks he's Oklahoma State, but that Willie's been cautioning them to not leap to conclusions, and any time PSU is in the mix they are usually in until the end.

BTW, kind of funny that at the beginning of the segment, Vais/CP did not know what the term recruitnik meant. I guess I've been involved in football recruiting for too long, as I can't even remember when I first heard that word -- probably 2 decades ago, and perhaps a little bit more.

My guess is Fix to OSU, Wittlake to PSU, and Berge 50/50 between Iowa and PSU. I think Berge wants to be on a strong team (competing for team titles) as well as a prestigious program, which is why I don't think he'll go to Minnesota/Purdue/Nebraska.

To clarify. I'm talking about team rankings. Could care less about where individual wrestlers are in the pre-season but to rank PSU as #9 like WIN did is not a credible ranking. Consider returning points, consider expected bonus points, consider (conservatively) freshman expected points. Rank accordingly.

I think it's alittle different with Fix and the time spent and relationships with OSU. Mark Hall comes out of Minny but it wasn't always his home and heart like it is for Daton.

Certainly is a valid argument edquinn06.

Other arguments are essentially just potential justifications against what many have thought was the default choice. Perhaps it has been a done deal for a long time. But, the fact that there has not been a decision yet and the decision is being held until later, fuels the speculation and alternate considerations.

We will see. That's one of the fun things about following recruiting... It ain't over until the signed fax is received.

I agree, Fix is doing what I would tell any athlete. Go on all ur visits and come home talk to ur family and make the best decision with the information u have available. This whole November 12 thing is killing tho. Committ already!!! LOL!!

Consider another way to think about the decision, from his family's point of view.

Yes, Dad chose OK St, when they were a dominant team and had won lots of championships.
(Don't frankly know Dad's record or the team's results while he was there, so that's just speculation)

However... Now it's the son's turn.

Shouldn't Daton be allowed to achieve or exceed the sorts of successes his father had?

If so, then perhaps going with the Hot Program, with the best chance for Individual and National Championships is the highest criteria, which over shadows fan support for the local team as a youth.

Perhaps father and son want Daton to rack up the most awards possible, including Ntl Champion Team Awards.
Every family can have their own criteria and ultimately those are the ones that count in the end.

OSU has a pretty good team so it's not far fetched to think that they could win it with Fix and a few others in place.

I'm sure Daton's parents will allow him to choose were he wants to go. Its not like OSU is a huge step behind PSU. He can easily win individual and team titles there.

Of course. It's not "far fetched" to think that Azchief32.

However, with the lineup at PSU, the current outlook for the future, the emphasis on Bonus Point wins and academics, Penn State has an added edge that can be valuable for individual and team results.

Imho... ;)

Thanks for supporting Daton to Penn State.

j/k... ;)

Also hope Daton does well and his hard work pays off.
I have known Derek for a long time-used to referee some of his matches when he was in high school. Great guy, good family. Good wrestler-just not Mike Farrell/Chris Barnes good. Always figured he would be a good coach, which I think he has.

No one knows the schollie money breakdown, but ..... Could one assume that any funds Cael had earmarked for Spencer Lee could be freed up to pay for Daton Fix ?

Also, the NLWC Slush Fund is always there when needed in times like these. Lol.

Agree!!!! I get that Flo is excited about the build up to NLI day. But this should be about what's best for the student athlete, not what's best for Flo, or the sport in general. I say give each kid a day in the sun, making their announcement on the day of their choosing. Plus, the suspense is killing me. .

Ok, so perhaps I'm looking at my own interest just a bit.;)

I just wish my Hawks had the secret formula that Cal has to be able to get all these number one ranked guys at every weight and then still have money left to go and get more.:(

Fix has to know by now Cael and this coaching staff is by far the best in the country on and off the mat..He has found out what a PSU degree can do for him after wrestling too. As far as wrestling partners there is none better in the country at PSU if he wants to win individual and team Titles....In addition to having muliple guys help him win a spot on the Oly team at a shot for a GOLD for the U.S.A. That will be sick seeing him and Hall on the same USA team from the same college....In Cael we trust for real too !!!!

All this was said not to long ago when it came to PSU recruiting Lee and he decided to go elsewhere. So don't be surprised if Dayton does the same.
