Food for thought: Oklahoma to the BIG?

Just some food for thought. This would eliminate that Iowa-Nebraska season- ending regular season game.
Ideally either add the combo of Texas and Oklahoma to finish the conference at 16......or if that's not doable then add North Carolina and Virginia. I know most would want Texas and Oklahoma. Thing is, just like Notre Dame, Texas spends too much time looking in the mirror, amazed at how pretty it looks.

Not possible. The B1G only looks at academics in bringing in new members. Oh, wait. They took Nebraska. Never mind. Well, since TV sets are the criteria, then Oklahoma makes sense.

Only if Rutgers and Maryland are replaced with Eastern teams that we actually care about. Maybe Cuse, WVU, BC.... Or Temple??

This would be quite a coup if it could be managed. People need to get off their high horse as far as academic rankings go. OU has allot to offer.

I think in 50 years there will be 64 teams in the Big Ten, with 8 divisions. Every non SEC school will be a potential invitee. The conference will have 4 different networks just to showcase all their teams. Michigan and Ohio State will have 1 of the 4 networks all to themselves.;)

Michigan and Ohio State pretty much have one network all to themselves already.

Yeah, football.

Lol. They are also good at basketball and wrestling and baseball ...

Seriously, this kind of academic snobbery annoys me because when I went to Penn State (78-82) we were looked down upon academically, by the elites, but when people from industry were looking to hire, they thought welll of PSU grads. From what I gather, OU is the same way.

Who knows what money and personal relationships between commissioners and presidents may cause to happen in the next ten years?

However, I have a OU grad friend who is a slight insider. It is his observation that no matter how much OU may despise all things Texas, separating from Texas concerns them because it cuts off the Texas recruiting base to a substantial degree, especially if the Red River Rivalry is not continued.

I think that if someone spoke to a Nebraska fan, they would get the same story that their presence in Texas has been diminished.

I can't see Texas giving up the Longhorn network money, but given the ESPN financial/subscriber loss, maybe the Texas/ESPN deal does not get continued 12-15 years down the road.

BTW, does anyone know if the Longhorn network makes any serious money? I guess the guarantee is good for Texas, but not sure if ESPN is profiting.

Now that the NCAA has allowed a CCG, there is less of a reason for the existing schools to stick together and not diminish the pie by adding two additional mouths to feed.

Yep, Oklahoma brings sports. Yippee.

Q: I understand the Big Ten Conference essentially has a standing invitation to OU. Can you say if that's true or not?

A: "Well, I wouldn't comment on that. I don't think it would be appropriate to comment. I would say that there are no official outstanding invitations from anyone right now, but there are always, always informal conversations that we get approached (with) from time to time, and I think the strength of our program, we're always considered a Top 10 program in the country. So we're always attractive to the conferences. We have comprehensive strength. We're talking about football, we're talking about basketball, we're talking about gymnastics, other things. We have a very strong, comprehensive program. Our brand, I noticed in one of the magazines recently, they measured the worth of the top brands in the country, as they saw it, athletically, and we were in the top six, ranked in that fashion. So I think there are always opportunities for Oklahoma.

Should have tried to get Oklahoma instead of Nebraska the first time. I think OkSU is hitched along though at least as long as T Boone Pickens has his way. I do think OK and Texas would be the ideal final additions but that could never happen. Texas might think its better off in the ACC, who might give them concessions to join.

Oh wait......no one really lives in Oklahoma. So in true Big Ten style (ala Rutgers invitation) the Big Ten will invite University of California- Santa Barbara since California has a lot of TV sets. Welcome Gauchos!!!! What a conference!!!!! ;)
