FB Recruiting Four-Star LB DJ McClary flips from Penn State to Rutgers

It’s way early. The big super stars wait to be on ESPN and all of a sudden our top ten drops to fifteen.

Seen it way too many times….🤷🏻‍♀️
Agreed. But my post was compared to Rutgers who is having a recruiting year far better than they have for a long time. And while these sites end up being directionally correct, they aren't infallible. Saquon was a 3-star at this time in his cycle before being upgraded to a 4 star before LOI day. Also, BTW, he was verbally committed to Rutgers.

There is nothing holding these kids to PSU at all, at this time.

And, to your point, with the portal, even classes that show up as freshpersons may not be there for their sophomore years. So the recruiting rankings are even more suspect.

To be fair, I don't follow recruiting much. But I noticed that most of the analytists have Rutgers rated very highly for their 2025 recruiting cycle. 247 has them 11, with us 9. On3 has us 13 and Rutgers 16. Rivals has us 5 and Rutgers 9. Rutgers is having one of the best classes in their history so far and if everyone signs.

Nothing against the Rutgers recruiting class; I'm talking about crushers "pass PSU" comment being a prime candidate for MBG infamy.

Rutgers also has 28 verbal. That has them inflated at the moment. ND has 21, Wisconsin 20.

We have 17.

Didn’t know we had a MBG special listing.

Thought we were all message board geniuses🤷🏿‍♂️

this is a big reason why I am not emotionally invested in this stuff. Before it was simply an arbitrary best guess. Now, it is meaningless. The good players that commit to Rutgers as Frosh are very likely to be playing for someone else as Jrs or Srs to improve their draft status. Pudue, a couple of years ago, built their best team in decades off of xfers from a forgotten QB and WR who got good drafts after one year.

I guess my point is that I don't care what Rutgers thinks because I don't care what we think either.

FFS People aren’t crying over the statue. They are upset that the school has yet to set the record straight that Joe and PSU football/alumni had nothing to do with enabling JS. That’s it. If they do the right thing the money will eventually start flowing in from alumni that feel disaffected etc by the BOT painting them as pedo enablers.
Money isn't going to change for NIL if they do this. This is delusional and just your desperate hope to see what you want happen. Penn State stating that doesn't change anything. In fact, it would make things worst nationally because it's missing the point and putting Paterno's legacy above all else

Do people still not comprehend the narrative against Pateeno reached the levels it did because the alumni and fans wouldn't let the story die? See every other scandal ever.

Right.

There is nothing to set straight. Bot is not going to change anyone's opinions on anything.

Will you start donating? Will you suddenly praise the bot? Doubt it. Nothing will change.

The narrative against Paterno reached the levels it did b/c the BOT threw gas on the fire instead of water which is what a non insane BOT would have done (see OSU, MSU, etc. scandals). The alumni didn't let it go b/c they saw it as a grave rush to judgement and tarnishing of a fantastic legacy that never should have been tarnished. It's NEVER too late to do the right thing and get the truth out

Yes, if they did the right thing and apologized to the alumni for rushing to judgement, pushing out the factually incorrect freeh/OAG narrative, and calling us all pedo enablers then I would be happy to start donating to the school again. I don't give money to people who call me and hundreds of thousands of others pedo enablers when we had nothing to do with one man's actions.

I dont believe that for a second. You are still complaining about 2012. You wont suddenly forget that you hate the BOT. It does not matter what the BOT does the pedo enabler comments are not going away. Do you think Pitt fans liked PSU or JoePa before 2012? A segment of the country hated Paterno and they looked for an excuse to complain and Sandusky gave them one. That will never go away and there is nothing the BOT can do about it.

PSU needs to ignore you and simply win big. If they win big you will jump back on the bandwagon. All you really cared about was the SUCCESS with or without honor. Just win baby. Empty the jails and win.

You did not know they were throwing gas until after things blew up. You and most fans thought they were throwing water and you expected a slap on the wrist. You now say they sould have told the NCAA to F off. Did you suggest telling the NCAA to F off in 2012?

That isn't true at all. Joe got suspended within a couple of days after the story broke. And people like Peetz, Ken Frazier, Surma and Suhey piled on. Nobody defended Joe at that level. Don't forget they PROMISED a public forum on the Freeh investigation and, despite several key elements of the investigation proven to be wrong, continued to support it and never had a public discussion on its merits. That is, of course, when I learned that the controlling seats were granted by business or politicians. Then I also learned that the businesses were raping PSU with continued development on campus and that is why PSU has dropped precipitously in university rankings of the last ten years.

Still disgusts me that Paul Suhey was such a weasel toward Joe. Talk about a gutless coward along with all of them.

You don’t know a damned thing about me and you certainly don’t know wtf you’re talking about in general. PR 101 says to not make any comments until more FACTS come to light and legal cases make their way through the courts. The BOT was feeling the heat so they rushed to judgment and threw Joe under the bus by firing him to take the heat off themselves. Wrong move 100% of the time. Joe did everything by the book and should have been praised by the BOT once all facts were discovered. They then paid freeh to trot out a bunch of bs to justify their actions.

Note the OAG never charged Joe with any crimes and actually admitted Joe did the right thing when pressed on the question in interviews.

The haters were always gonna hate Joe but the vast majority of folks respected him and the BOT’s cowardly actions changed those peoples minds and the court of public opinion

That's not true--people were mad that our alumni and fan base were fighting to defend him. All the public cared about were the victims which is normal when children are involved. The BOT, who did screw up, weren't the issue with how the media handled it. It was everyone else that couldn't simply let the story die on it's on. Had we done that it would be largely forgotten.

When people bash Penn State and Paterno it's not because of the BOT or Paterno--it's for the people they see who put Paterno above everything else. Including the victims.

Haa! Not even close. Our BOT gave the MSM Joe's head on a platter. If the BOT handled it correctly (and defended the school, it's culture, and Joe by extention) the alumni would have moved on and not been all pissed off for being called pedo enablers along with Joe. Since they didn't handle it correctly the alumni kept it alive hoping to put pressure on them to do the right thing.

John Surma was the main driver of the BOT's actions against Joe b/c he was all butthurt over his son washing out of the fb program or Joe being too hard on him or some shit. So being the piece of shit that he is, he used this tragic situation to enact his revenge and ruin Joe's reputation.

Oh please...No one was putting Paterno above the victims, it doesn't help the victims to perpetuate a false narrative of some dubious PSU football culture enabling their abuse. Their abuse was enabled by massive failures by TSM and the states child welfare agencies CYS/DPW, you know, the actual entitles responsible for the kids JS was hanging around with and who were made aware of both incidents (TSM was an agent of CYS and mandatory reporters). That's why it never died b/c the scorn was directed at the wrong entities/people. B/c of that lack of attention to these entities TSM was able to fold up shop and move to Texas where they continued their crazy friend fitness program. How exactly did that help the victims or prevent new victims? It didn't. It enabled potential future abuse in a different state. Great job everyone! Blame the alumni/school culture and call it day.

Once the BOT looked into it and realized that both 1998 and 2001 incidents were reported OUTSIDE of PSU to child care experts who were also mandatory reporters they should have shouted that from the rooftops and defended their employees who were being accused of a coverup, etc..

Again, all rambling doesn't alter the FACT that the general public saw the reaction of the Paterno loyalists as Penn State's fans putting Paterno above the victims. That's a reality even if it wasn't the intent.

You're missing the point. No one is saying the BOT handled thing well. They didn't but it was Paterno's most loyal fans that destroyed his legacy from being restored by not comprehending that defending his wasn't needed at the time. It wasn't smart. It was the dumbest thing people could have down. And you're still doing it.

See how other people handled sexual abuse cases at their school. See how Michigan didn't continue argue about sanctions and cheating. If you stop talking about it people forget.

Again, nothing the school will alter how Paterno is viewed nationally. His fans ruined that.

Did Joe follow pr101? He should have kept his mouth shut and not hold press conferences in front of his house. He also should have told his moron son to keep his mouth shut.

Joe should have hired a good lawyer and a pr guy. They should have issued a statement that jow would always encourage any victim or witness of any crime to contact the police.

You talk about how MSU handled things. Their coaches did nit hold press conferences.

It probably should have been the police in the spotlight. Why didn't they do more? They were told about sandusky. Joe should have kept his head down and layed low.

Yes, heaven forbid Joe stick up for himself when the school he gave decades of his life to refused to and allowed the media to ravage him. He wouldn't have needed to do that if the school followed PR 101. I'm no longer responding to these posts in this thread b/c it's off topic. Lets take it over to the JS thread if you want to continue.

No they would've kept McClary if they could've.

Would they?

Wasn't there some info put out there that McClary did not test well and did not look good in camp? Why was that put out there?

Why did Mcclary say Franklin gave him something to think about?
