WrestleStat has new rankings as of today.

Davis #14
Kasak #16
Messenbrink #9

24-1 is a decent start.

With Robbie less than 100% and SVN's injury, 10 AAs seemed out of the question ... maybe not.

I know WrestleStat sometimes has a few headscratchers; it will be interesting to see the other services.

Isn't that a pretty big jump for MM? As I recall, Flo had him lower than most others.

IDK, my eyes are telling me 9 is very light and I'm having trouble keeping his his U20 tournament results out of the equation. Yes, it was FS, but he took the field apart.
I agree but those results shouldn’t be included in his folk resume. I think he’s better than 9th but he hasnt wrestled a ton of tough competition yet. He just demolished his toughest opponent though. He will continue moving up but for now I think 9th is fine

My rankings have him top 4. Yeah, yeah, I know, who's he beat, do you know is in the top 4, yada yada...? Already considered

I agree that he will likely finish higher than #9, but I'm okay with that for now. I'd like to see if a guy like Amine or Caliendo can slow the match down enough to win ugly.

So far Bearclaw is the only one who has come close.
The more MM tears up the rankings, it makes me wonder how good exactly is Barraclough?!? Is he top 10? 15? As much as I hate to lose people, he deserves a chance to go somewhere and wrestle for himself (i.e. at Lock Haven or Lehigh or something).

I feel the same way about Mike Evans.

What are you talking about? Everyone has the opportunity to move on if that's their desire.

New "freshman on the rise" at #1 at 157.

Yeah, that's one of the headscratchers you sometimes get from Wrestlestat. Meyer is certainly a threat to win it all, but 10-2 with his best win over #8 Andonian doesn't seem enough to put him above the undefeated returning runner-up.

Agreed. Maybe the wrestlestat algorithm watched Haines' and Shapiro's performances this weekend, and thought hmm...

A fft win over Andonian none the less, and wasnt Ando winning at the time??

It'll be interesting to see if MM is ranked #1 after beating two (well, one guy, twice) top-8 guys, too.
The second win was an injury default in a match where he was down 3-2 at the time. If that is pushing Shapiro over the top, they need to rethink the algorithm. The win over Paddy is pretty impressive, too, though. I know Paddy hasn't lived up to his recruiting pedigree, but holy crap was that a complete beat down.

At one time Wrestlestat was being criticized for not giving credit to stud freshman and their excuse was because they didnt have enough matches. Now this.
Shapiro's record against D1 opponents is 25-2 (he wrestled all college tournaments as a HS senior at Spartan RTC), so there is some body of work.

Wrestlestat is a great place to get box scores and a wrestler’s match history. The rankings are definitely flawed, but it still gives you a decent idea of a wrestler’s ranking/career results. If you use Wrestlestat just for the rankings, you’ll be left scratching your head.

The beauty of this is we get to watch PSU's projected tourney points climb all year. We took a big hit with SVN, but Evans, Kasak and MM will all see their stock rise going forward.

It was a lot of fun watching Nolf and Bo rise up the ranks from nowhere their RS freshman year, with every dead body they left behind. I don't recall exactly, but I tend to recall Flo had PSU ranked 5th to start that year. Pretty hilarious.

I actually prefer the crystal ball rankings where pundits list both kids and teams where they think they will finish the year. Simply watching all of the rankings change by week due to wins and loses is a more of a math problem than someone sticking their neck out with an opinion. This is one year when being ranked by a pundit as the #1 at 125 may actually be a bad thing, a curse of sorts. I'll call it now with my preseason fav Noto and ride that horse and if I am wrong oh well. Better than changing my mind every week. PS that is ignoring any chance of Vito or Fix dropping which is seeming more likely by the day.

Aside from Olympics, is there any reason why Fix and or Vito would drop?

Not a great reason, but between the two of them, either one would be the odds on favorite to coast to a championship. Pretty enticing proposition for Dayton in particular one night think. With the pressure to drop for the Olympics a few weeks later, it seems like a pretty good idea.

The new beneficiaries might just prove to be Crookham and Nagao 😃
