by the PA Senate and is now a member of the PSU BOT.

Capretto was one of the ex-players behind the "The Joe We Know" project. Not a friend to the old guard. Capretto gave a couple of highly-critical quotes to the media as the whole nonsense was going down, and was called by Gov. Corbett to ask what he was doing. From what I understand, Capretto told Corbett exactly what was on his mind without filter.
Side note - yet another PSU Fiji added to the mix. Very odd how many Fijis there are in this whole saga.

Bob Capretto and Elliott Weinstein have been confirmed by the PA Senate this afternoon and are now officially members of the Board of Trustees.

Good day!

Bob,
Are you a FIJI?
I was a class of 74 FIJI and am amazed at how many FIJI's are on every side of this issue. Certainly is a little weird and also spands quite few years.

Yes - PSU '78 Fiji. Very odd - both on the good guys side and the bad guys side. Guys who were friends in school and some who grew up together now on opposite sides of this saga. Sad. And we all know that the bad side guys know the good guys really are good guys.

NOT busting on you by any means but I choked on your Fiji comment yes there are lots of Fiji's...Paul Suhey...if I'm not mistaken.

Capretto '68(?), Joyner '72, Curley '76, Suhey '79, Dandrea '77.... all Fijis. The main guy behind "The Joe We Know" was a Fiji (and my roomie for a time there). Joyner, Curley and Suhey are all from State College.

Are there any other positions which are open? Will this help make a difference with respect to voting or will it still be completely one sided

Wasn't/isn't FIJI the "jock" frat? I seem to recall when I was in school that not many athletes joined frats, but those that did were usually in FIJI.

interesting...

In my house we had a special award we would pass around. It was called "The Buddy F@<ker" award. It was for the member that screwed other members or otherwise acted in a unbrotherly manner. If you won it 3 or more times then your name was engraved on the award. "The Paul xxx Memorial, Buddy F@&ker award".

There are some serious buddy f@&kers at Fiji.

Not a dig at you Bob78 it's sad that brothers completely screwed Curley.

Unbelievable.

I think in this case, all friends and alums of Penn State comprise the fraternity. And yes, that large, beloved brother/sisterhood got f**ked by the Trustees in Nov. 2011.

Well, in the mid-70s, of the 50 or so guys in the house, maybe half were varsity athletes, and few more played club sports. We had a good mix overall. Football and lacrosse were the sports most represented, with a few baseball players, a couple of swimmers, a wrestler or two, and maybe a soccer player thrown in there too if I recall. It was a good place to spend 3 years of college. I'm still in touch with some of the guys.
There were other houses with athletes, including Phi Delta Theta across the street from us (no longer there). They had a similar mix of athletes / non-athletes, similar number of football players. They had a couple of track team members over there from my high school.

Yes, there was some hazing. There was a 'hell night' just before being formally initiated as a brother.
Nothing that traumatized me. I never did like olives anyway. ;-)
As I recall, Capretto was the guy Paterno said "I don't like him because he is Italian, but I like him because I'm Italian". I know other players have been credited with this, but I knew Capretto and was at state when Paterno said it.

Disappointing that it takes 19 posts before anyone asks the OP this question:

Did Lubrano provide any insight as to Mr. Capretto's opinions on Penn State subjects besides our thrice-removed-former football coach? For instance, steps he would take to ensure that PSU remains non-cost-prohibitive for Commonwealth families?

No, Anthony did not elaborate in the brief Facebook post he made. I copied and pasted what he wrote My assumption regarding Bob Capretto, as it generally is with people who have accomplished a few things in life, is that he and others on the BOT are aware of at least the most pressing issues when they accept the invitation to join the BOT and have the capacity to take on multiple issues, including taking steps to contain tuition and related costs, via involvement on committees and other collaborative efforts.
Did you ask the same questions in this forum when Dandrea and Rucci and others were appointed to the BOT? What steps did they outline regarding the cost-containment issue prior to being formally introduced? What were their opinions on those subjects besides being part of the BOT group that continues to fight discovery and cover the tracks of the Nov. 2011 BOT who screwed things up so horribly?

So who did he replace? Any others to be replaced soon? What is the balance now good vs bad?

I'd love to take your word, and Lubrano's, that he is a good guy but I've gotten to the point in life that I no longer trust anyone. I and thousands of others will be watching and listening to see that he lives up that standard and pays hell if fails.

These folks are filling open "Governor Appointee" positions. The seats formerly held by - iirc - Judas Rucci and Bobblehead Casey (the Bobblehead, of course is now a special appointee to the BOT)

I must say, it sure does sound like you don't hang around too many people who can walk and chew gum at the same time. On the plus side you should be pleased that the alumni trustees are the ones who have affected positive change on this issue that you find important and that the old trustees ignored.

I"m glad to hear he was confirmed. I must have missed the announcement of his baptism

Fiji was the football frat in my day in the late 70's. They had some kind of scandal that involved a "train" one year, if I recall.

The next two Gubenatorial appointees whose terms expire next July 1st are Cliff Benson and Allie Goldstein.

Indeed it is. I remember meeting Bobby Capretto years ago at Fiji when he was a player. My older sister and her sorority sister took me to a party there with them. I think her sorority sister was dating Bill Lenkitis (sp?) at the time who was the center. I think Jack Curry was also there. Anybody know if these two were Fijis?

Yes, they were.

No, there was no scandal. There was an accusation made public, no evidence found to support it, and no charges were filed. We treated women pretty well, and respectfully, especially given the era.

Lenkaitis (sp) was, can't recall if Curry was or not. Lenkaitis played for the Patriots for a few years then became a dentist.

Class of '74 means season of '73, with Capp, Shuman, and O'Neal among others in the house that fall. Lots of talent. Players of note during my years there were Reihner, Cefalo, Petercuskie, Matt Suhey, Bruce Clark, Mike Guman, among others.

Allie will obviously - one would think - be "unretained", since the "Student Trustee" position has now been institutionalized elsewhere (Barron's Boy).

The interesting one of that pair will be Benson.
Does Pegula swing a big enough stick to keep his proxy on Board? Or will Wolf do the right thing?

That is going to be an interesting item to watch.

________________________________________________

The mind-boggling item with respect to the Governor Appointees - to me - is that Wolf has allowed the Con-Man to remain on as a Governor appointee all this time.
Wolf certainly knows the Con-Man's history......and it wouldn't be so hard to just pull him aside and say "Hey, Mark, I think you ought to develop some outside interests that would demand too much of your time....and you'll therefore have to - regretfully - step away from your Trustee position"

Certainly Wolf's proxy to the Board, Hangar, is well aware of the situation.

How Wolf can let this lying con man continue to "serve" (UNDER the name of the Governor) is just beyond me.....and - coming from a guy who campaigned for Wolf, and genuinely found him to be a very likeable guy - EXTREMELY disconcerting.

I know the man has a VERY full plate.....but this is a "five minutes out of his day" one time action. And any excuses to the contrary are jibberish.

ALAS.

Dambly is a lying hypocrite who should never have been appointed to the BoT. I am very disappointed that Wolf hasn't defenestrated him.
