ESPN has updated its Football Power Index after college football's third weekend, one featuring a major upset, a new SEC contenders and other results giving us a closer look at teams entering the realm of the elites.
The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

Five total touchdowns from quarterback Trace McSorley spearheaded Penn State's 63-10 drubbing of Kent State in Happy Valley. "That's all he does is win," Nittany Lions coach James Franklin said. "And it's because of all those things that he doesn't get enough credit for. It's how he supports the guys. It's how he is when they make mistakes. It's how he is when they make big plays."
