Basketball GAME THREAD: PSU Hoops vs. Rutgers

So far so good. PSU has led by as many as 13 and is up at half 27-19. Excellent defense so far.

Anybody watching? Following on my phone. Up by 9 at the 12 min mark. Looks good so far.

51-39 5:14 to go.

They don’t look like world beaters tonight but they’re playing good D against Rutgers.

That was an ugly game to watch but a win is a win. OSU will much tougher on the road.

As I said in the last game thread when sessoms gets a bucket or two early he is a completely different player. If he can maintain some consistency in games that he doesn't score early this absolutely can be a tournament team. Lee takes rebounding pressure off of harrar and lundy and can spread the floor with a big lineup. Need to keep knocking off teams at home for sure...

Not sure about Big Dance. Looking at remaining schedule I have us around .500 with 13-14 losses. Will need at least one B10 tourney win.

How much would the 3 games cancelled due to Covid have helped? Not good for strength of schedule but 3 very likely wins.

I do not have to stretch to see us 10-10 (maybe 11-9) in conf. 10-10 B10 +1-1 BTT and we should be in.

IF that happens, is Shrews B10 COTY in his first year???
I think if we go 11-9 or 10-10 in conference play we are in regardless. 9-11 and we have to win 1-2 games in big ten tourney (probably two). 8-12 and we need to make a run to the conference championship game.

Some of those scenarios definitely won’t get it done…going 16-15 with our schedule and no really good non-conference wins will mean NIT.

It depends on who make up that 10-10 record. Do we knock off some teams at the top? On the road? Or, do we just beat up on the bottom third/half of the conference?

Good read....I will add...#11 from Rutgers wanted nothing to do with Harrar. We should have given him at least 5 more post feeds, he owned the Rutgers guy.

At 16-15, it won’t matter who we beat.
Entirely disagreed, given the circumstances. We didn't get to play our buy games because of covid. That would have put the win total up to 19. We would be on the bubble, probably on the outside looking in, but we would have to be in the bubble. I wonder what our net would be

net is only 80 something if i remember correctly, kenpom is around 65. Those 3 help with the overall look of the record but would be more Quad 2,3,4 wins, dont think it would raise either of those other metrics too much.

Need to knock off a big dog or two in conference, especially on the road. Whether it be OSU this weekend or WIsconsin or MSU in a couple weeks, those are the kind of wins that they need.

I meant the net at the end of the season, not right now. So far we have one quad one win, if we get three or four more quad one wins, 10-10 may do it. If we continue to only load up on quad 3 and quad 2s, then it won't... So, IMO, who the wins come against greatly matters when it comes to how many wins we will need

That would have also involved an extra quad 1 win at VCU, which would have been far and away our best Non-Conference win. With the actual schedule that we played, we’re not even close to the tourney at 16-15.

Keep in mind that we got a favorable schedule this season when it comes to the top of the conference (and the B1G hasn’t had a stellar showing)…we already played our 1 game against Purdue, and only get Illinois once. Also only get Wisconsin once, Michigan once (assuming they get it together when they are healthy), MSU/OSU only once more. There isn’t any scenario you pick where we go 7-8 from here on out and still dance, unless COVID knocks out a dozen+ teams.

Wagner is our best non-conference win…and I can’t even say what our second best one is…we’d need to differentiate ourselves with that hole in our resume, and 16-15 (or even 17-14) doesn’t do that.

I never said anything about finishing 7-8. If we finish 7-7 (10-10) we need to win a couple in the BTT, imo. 11-9 and a BTT win would be extremely interesting. Otherwise, 10-10 with a BTT losses solid NIT
