Basketball Penn State Slides to a Four-Game Losing Streak with Loss to Michigan State

after thrashing out of conference quad 4 bums - we are now back to normal - getting ours asses kicked in B10 play.
Losing by 1 point = asses kicked. I guess this is meant as hyperbole but if a certain president said something like this they would try to put him in jail or bankrupt him.

Unfortunately almost winning actually still is losing. This program needs to start winning Big 10 games on a much more consistent basis, and at the very least execute an offense in the last five minutes of a game, which they never seem to do, and play determined defense, which is the first thing that an overmatched team should do.

Let's face it. This is turning into a very disappointing second season for Rhoades because it appears as of there is no progress. In fact, this team now is less competitive than last season (losing by 40 some points at Illinois last week), which doesn't make sense. This season now appears to be another write-off, so Rhoades really needs to show substantial progress next season or any faith that has been put into him should be withdrawn.

It's a shame that a game like tonight is just a mere formality: you know that PSU is going to lose and most likely it won't be competitive.

If Baldwin isn't on his A game - there is no plan B. How the hell does Rhoades have a roster so imbalanced. It's like he and Franklin have a drinking game for worst position group in State College - Wide Receiver or Guard....

Rhoades inherited an empty roster. It takes more than portal players and one freshman class to balance a roster. I give him a pass for this year.

Yes, he’s got another good group coming in next year, you have to give him a couple years to get his guys in

8 fouls to 2 against PSU already…home court advantage for MSU.

11 fouls to 3 (and one of MSU’s was a technical). Not going to upset anyone with that kind of discrepancy.

I'm pretty sure Baldwin is still hurting. He's not even trying to take the ball into the paint. He's playing off the ball instead of running the offense. I know it's tough to give away another game but I think he should be sitting.

Hanging with Sparty in the second half.

Hanging in there, but every time we get close, MSU stretches the lead back out.

Better than I thought it would be, but too many turnovers and MSU has too many weapons…90-85.

Just not good enough to beat the #12 team on the road. Good effort. Needed that against Oregon and Indiana and we probably win those games.

Indiana at home was the game we had to win. We played Oregon & Illinois tough on the strength of 3 pt shooting but those are tough games to win on the road.

Except one of them made the final four and you still complain.

Nothing has changed or will change without a big upgrade in recruiting. Does anyone see that happening.

its already happened. this current group of freshmen and the one coming in have some of the best players PSU has ever recruited. The reality is that this team is still a top 50 team, the Big ten is just very deep.

Ace clearly wasn't anywhere close to a 100% and they still went to a very good MSU team's home and hung around. Without Ace, they nearly beat a pretty good Oregon at their home. I swear, some of you would bitch about a blowjob.

I'm not complaining about a 5 point loss to MSU...some of the other games okay but they played well tonight

I don't think they played well. Too many turnovers, some unnecessary fouls, forcing shots, not blocking out, and Kern missing FTs.

I give them credit for not giving up against a good team in a tough environment. They kept the game close with some really good 3 pt shooting but they had too many avoidable errors.

That's fair--I don't think they're a great/good team. I think they're very flawed and they battled tonight against a superior team. I give the coach and team credit for that but I get what you're saying.

I think PSU is a good team. They just went through the most difficult part of their schedule with their best player injured/out. They played ranked teams like Oregon & MSU close.

But they're now 12-6 and they have to start winning. Monday's game vs Rutgers is very important but it won't be easy with Baldwin < 100% and Johnson's status unknown.

Maybe--time will tell--we know I'm harsh on what is a "good team"

Oregon was at home and I think we blew a 9 pt lead in the last 6 minutes. We should be 2-2 in our last 4 and staying on track to get 10 conference wins by holding serve at home. As it is now, it will take a significant turnaround to cobble together 10 conference wins. By the way, that Indiana team who beat us at the Palestra has promptly lost their last two games by 25 points, one being a home loss.

Losses at Rutgers, vs Indy, and vs Oregon were all winnable games. Those losses are going to make things difficult, especially with Baldwin hurting and Johnson's status unknown.

The good news to me is that PSU was able to hang in against ranked teams. The bad news is that we hung in with some good 3pt shooting, not by having good fundamentals (taking care of the ball, blocking out, winning turnovers).

Home vs Rutgers on Monday is a much more important game due to the couple we let slip away.
