Agree but the contrarian side would point to Russell Wilson.
How does one earn a degree in one semester? I'm not saying he didn't......but earning some type of meaningful degree in one semester?....That's more than a little hard to figure.

I wouldn't think you could do that at the U of Phoenix.

Oh, I see....sorry, misunderstood you. Yeah, tough to do. However, I understand that once a player earns their bachelor degree, they are pretty much free agents. Hard to argue that they have the right to go wherever they want, without penalty from the NCAA.

In putting out that "free agency" edict, the NCAA expressly stated that the Grad Transfer provision was to allow for:

A graduated student-athlete to pursue a Post-Graduate course of study at another institution.....provided that the transfer is academically motivated, and that his/her existing institution does not offer the students desired program, and the "receiving" institution does.

Of the what - hundreds, by now? - of Grad Transfers in D1 Football, how many of those "academically motivated" transfers yielded a post-graduate degree? How many of the "new programs of study" were actually NOT offered at the previous institution? Who's the guy (LOL, it is probably a "committee") who investigates and verifies that the motivation is for academic reasons, and that the STUDENTS desired course of study is NOT offered at the existing institution? Does anyone care?

Good Lord....the NCAA - and just about everyone else involved in the "Amateur Athletics" business" (including the fans) - couldn't be more hypocritical if they tried.

Don't disagree but operationalizing something is next to impossible. All you can do is ask a kid, "is this to get a graduate degree?" Answer (looking up from iPhone) "ah...hells yeah!". A year later, "why are you going into the NFL draft and not getting your undergrad degree." Kid (looking up from new iphone) "Things change." NCAA "we don't think that's cool." Kid (looking up from iPhone) "I don't care."

I know no one cares....no doubt....not the fans, the players, the universities, the coaches - or anyone else.

BUT, it wouldn't be hard to "operationalize" at all (?? Is that a new "buzzword"? :) I must be out of the loop).....
and
....as far as the NCAA is concerned - if ya' ain't gonna' do it, and ya' know ya' ain't gonna' do it, then ya' ought not to say that's what you're gonna' do
( I think the buzzword for that is "hypocrisy"....which is the one thing the NCAA does in a "World Class" manner).

He was here for the summer also, so that's more than one semester. I remember Franklin tweeting a congratulations to him for graduating and if you look at his facebook page, it lists him as having a Masters degree from Penn State in "Educational Leadership". (Also, he apparently already has a job!)

Good for him.

Thank goodness he could transfer from a lower-level University that didn't offer such options. :)
