Gilman 2031 HC?

A quick story from my youth.. I was walking into our local Kum and Go gas station when I was still in high school like 2001 or so. Right off Interstate 35.

There was a group of 10 people or so outside taking a picture and laughing away in front of the Kum and Go sign. They sounded Australian to me as they made Dick jokes. Very entertaining to a teenager from Iowa I must say.

I spoke up and said something like I know it's only Iowa, but there is more here to see than gas station signs on the side of the road. The Bridges of Madison County are just a couple miles away! They laughed and asked me about Clint Eastwood and John Wayne's childhood home near by. Yada yada. It was a good visit.

I came out of the store, they were still outside smoking cigs and one of the guys hollered at me Hey kid, do you like music? I said of course! He tossed me a CD and told me to take a listen.

I did as soon as I hopped in my killer 1996 Red V-6 5 speed Camero I thought was the best man could have! It was demo disk with 3 songs I really liked. Turns out It was the South African band named Seether and they were kind of a big deal at the time. Not sure if they around anymore but it's a fun memory of mine!

Kum and Go is funny anywhere ya go!

You seriously brought up "The Bridges of Madison County" to Seether?

Yes sir and they loved me for telling them. I said it because it was only 2 miles away in St Charles, IA and I was 17. People in Iowa are really friendly overall. It's true! It's unusual to "NOT" wave when driving by someone where I grew up. I miss that

I Iived around those bridges most of my life and never paid much attention to them, but I'm telling you people from all around the world stop to take pictures in front of them every damn day.. Even before Clint Eastwood made his super soft movie there. Maybe I will understand why if I make it to retirement

He thinks the V-6 Camero is KILLER so
I certainly did at the time. I sold my 1989 Lincoln Mark 7 LSC 225HP 5.0 High output luxury leather car for it. :D I had a 6 disc CD changer, with twin 12 inch subs and a powerful Amp I had no business wiring up myself. Oh yeah, I was as cool as Jonathan Taylor Thomas back then! Big mistake to sell it but my Lincoln had 200K miles, a tranny slipping, and air-ride suspension leaks everywhere. I traded my prom date for what I thought was the prettier girl. Silly kid.

Life choices are always fun/depressing to look back on... Aren't they?

I still drive a V-6 now btw. It's just in the form of a 400+HP(had a little work done😉) twin turbo F-150 Lariat😀

Am I the only one who could envision Gilman as our next HC? Listening to his interview post-OTT, I get the impression that he listens to what Cael says, internalizes it, and moves forward accordingly towards his goals. I know that Starocci, for one, thanked Gilman for his help during the past NCAA season. Living in CoMo, it's difficult to forget what happened in his match with Waters, but that was six years ago and people can change over time. If he can win gold in Tokyo (a big if, admittedly), we all know about the success we had with another HC who was a World silver medalist/Olympic gold medalist

It so funny that you wrote this.

I just got off the phone with Larry Lee. His son hates Gilman so much that SL plans to wrestle 57kg until Thomas unlaces his shoes. Then when Thomas gets the head coach job at PSU, SL is going to take the AD job and fire him.

Please don't shoot the messanger.

Crazy huh? Almost like I did it on purpose or something!
No Sheetz or Wawas here. Casey's and Kum and Go's lol.
Are Kwik Stars not taking over in you area? They are around CR/Marion. Caseys are hurting here now.

Kwik stars forsure here in the QC. I installed several "Captive Air" systems(grease duct) in the Kwik stars here so they could fry chicken lol. Everything is a competition nowadays to be the best in the business

Went to a 1 rm school had 1st and 2nd grade had a little bld across river called hillbilly haven where on wkends there would be locals playing guitars bangos spoons and jugs. Then got older, heard older sisters alblums Led Zeppelin three dog knights and others liked that even more and most kids stopped going its now a MC and our quiet little twp is a shit hole. Only 45min from state college

The logical next step for Cael is to become AD and rise all the sports to dynasty level. Put Casey in there, still have Cael as AD and all will be good in the PSU sports world. if anyone could create a long term success in some of these sports, it would be Cael

I just can’t imagine that that is something Cael would want to do for a living...

Definitely not. Cael doesn't want to spend 20 hrs/day pickpocketing alumni. Though maybe he could hire the person who does.

Though Cael intimidating a crook like Jim Delany or Mark Emmert would have been good theater
Not sure either is capable of being intimidated. Delany too political, Emmert too stupid.

But: with his well-known fondness of all things Ohio State, Mark Hall would make a great B10 Commissioner.

Just relieved you didn’t trade your prom date for the slipping tranny!! Now THAT would be a story...

The “love for the sport” phrasing does not seem to come from a direct Gilman quote. [SIC] I could be wrong, but the author of the article seems to have simply taken the several interviews we all saw from the OTT and made an article, inserting a “love for the sport” phrase out of nowhere.
Oops. I was totally wrong. A direct quote in the Gilman article mentions “love for the sport”:

"In my head, when I was coming to the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, it was for a lot of reasons, but the main reason was to get better at wrestling," Gilman said. "I was at one place in my career and I needed to get to another place in my career if I wanted to accomplish my goals and that essentially was just getting better at sport wrestling and finding the love for the sport again."
