I know I was surprised that the Final Four games went to New Years Eve. it made no sense, given that last year these games were on New Years Day. If you get a chance take a look at this article - very good explanation and criticism to who was doing this. It looks like the Rose Bowl was the cause of the issue, and insisted on keeping their time slot exclusively. this is unbelievable. The only people who care about the Rose this year are Iowa and Stanford fans. I am going to a party and have no intention of watching this game. It would have been a net gain to reverse these games to NY Eve and then have the important games today.
the writer of the article focused on the tournament management and the Executive Director of the playoff. Evidently, the Rose and Sugar got guaranteed their time slots no matter what. In most cases, money talks, but in this case a few people were actually able to push a plan that is a net loss. cant wait for the playoffs to go to 8 teams and that will pretty well make these bowls irrelevant.
it will be interesting to see how the announcers characterize the Rose this year, since last year it was one of the playoff games (Oregon v FSU). how do you describe a bowl that is now not relevant.
