15 minutes ago I almost drove off the road. He is on with Mad Dog every Friday. We know he doesn't like PSU, but at least get your facts straight.

First he said PSU got blown out by Pitt, then corrected himself by saying the game wasn't as close as the score indicated. What??? PSU was driving for the winning score before the INT. Of course he knew the Michigan score by heart.

If there was any positive, he did say there is a chance that PSU and Washington both get in over OSU. Of course add him to the list of idiots who called the OSU win a fluke.

I seriously never understand why people A. listen to the morons on the radio and B. Continue to listen to the morons on the radio. The fact is, due to the system we have now, they have no more power! It is great, because you have these idiots claiming the "eye test" is more important than actual on field results.

They are inconsequential so stop listening!

the only two people I care to listen to is Ivan Maisels podcast and Stewart Mandel's. They know what they are talking about and have a good grasp of history.

On the whole OSU "fluke thing", do you honestly believe OSU would not beat us 4 out of 5 times if we did a series?

Just heard much of the same from Cowherd and Wilbon (?). Cowherd said college football only has 9 main teams traditionally- USC, OSU, Michigan, LSU, Alabama... (not Penn St or Notre Dame).

Then Wilbon says it's Alabama and no one else. Doesn't like Ohio St because 'they lost to a Penn St team I don't like' (meaning their play not in general).

Then Wilbon takes the "fluke"to a whole new level. 'If anyone other than Alabama wins it's a fluke'. ;)

Bottom line is that these talking heads know nothing. Any team will gladly take a national title and deal with ESPN saying it's fluky.

Pleading ignorance - who is Greg McElroy?

Good point. Would Miami have beaten us 4/5 in '87? I tend to think that tosu would beat us something like 6-7 out of 10 times this year, but what the hell do I know?

Point is, doesn't matter...we played them once and we won.

Bama QB, won them the 2010 BCS National Championship. Drafted by the Jets in the late rounds, then bounced out of the NFL after a couple years.

You are correct that all that matters is that we beat them the 1 time we needed to beat them, but I see where some people come off calling it a "fluke".

Wtf is a fluke win anyway? Is it any time there is an upset? Wasn't Houston's win last night a fluke because they prolly wouldn't put up 31 in a half if they played again.

I call bs on any fluke win in any sport. You lose because you got your ass beat. That night OSU's Oline was freaking manhandled. There's no fluke about that.

Mad Dog ... seriously?!?!!
I'm just wondering now if this is the same mad dog I listened to 15-20 years ago. Haven't heard him in 10+ years ....

He's a completely manufactured product, like most of them. Big baseball guy, has always been on record that he hates college football, which is fine, but it doesn't stop him from blathering on about it. His whole shtick is about screaming.

If we go on to have a long run of 10 win/top 10 type seasons, and it all started with the tosu win, when will we stop being a fluke?

For many in the media, never. It's funny how we're a "football factory" for purposes of trying to destroy the program in print v-a-v the scandal, but every time we win it was a minor miracle. Nice.

In order to win the game based on one or two plays it means the game had to be close

In order to be close it means the prohibitive underdog had to play the prohibitive favorite fairly straight up.

In order to play the prohibitive favorite close it means good coaching and good execution of the game plan by the players

So it was no fluke. It was a team that played Ohio State toe to toe. And capitalized when they had the opportunity.

As far as playing Ohio State in s series and losing 4 out of 5 times-well PSU and OSU have played each other every year since 1993. So there is already a series being played. Or have you not been around the last 23 years?

But they did not win this year. And that is all that matters this year.

Try again Dave Jones errrr I mean " Brad"

If you look at the OSU record vs the rest of the Big 10 over the last 10-15 years PSU has beaten them more than anyone else.. not a fluke.

The hate and spew from the talking heads will expendiencially increase all over the airways if we win the next two weeks and if a top 7 team loses. I turned on and have listened to XM College Station for the last two weeks (first time since they canned Bill King), and not one of them has given PSU any recognition for where they are at. If PSU loses one or both of the next two games, they are right, but if we win outright they will still question.

Starting to feal like a Raiders fan and am actually enjoying it. F'em them all!

The dude was trying to say that there were "flukey" scores on special teams. He was absolutely right.

A fluke is an unforced error which gives the opponent "free" points.

For instance, if your punt returner simply muffs a punt on, say your own 38 yd line, and the opponent kicks a FG, that is a "flukey" 3 points.

Similarly, if you snap the ball 2 yds over the punters head, who then recovers the ball in the endzone for a safety, the opponent scores 2 "flukey" points.

Now, of course, punt and kick blocks are not unforced errors. These are plays in which the blocking team showed greater skill than the kicking team.

Hope this is clear.

OK, I get Alabama, Ohio State, and USC under Pete Carroll.

Michigan? When has it ever been a national contender annually? At least since WWII. Michigan is the single biggest blow-hard program on Earth.

They've needed years of Honig, Lemonier, and Witvoet just to be relevant in the big ten ... then they lose their bowl game without their guardian angels calling the games.

Gees ... 60 years and all of one single solitary undefeated, untied season. Wow! What a tradition!

"But Urban rushed his field goal team onto the field..."

Yes, he did. I went back and checked, and there seems to be no correlation between "rushing your field goal team onto the field" and "when you rush your field goal team onto the field, your field goal is automatically blocked".

Could not find that, anywhere.
