GS Warriors - Cavs: Game 2 Thread

We are looking at the greatest pro sports team ever assembled. They are the NBA's equivalent of The Avengers (with Zaza playing the role of Scarlet Johanson, bringing nothing to the team skill wise and is simply there because they need a 5th).

Bigger question is, could any team in the past beat this team? That 72 win Chicago Bulls team was the greatest modern team I had ever seen. Would love to see them go up against this Warriors team. Rodman would give Draymond fits mentally and physically on the boards. Scottie might be able to slow down Durant a little with his length. Luc Longley would force ZaZa to do something on D rather than just roam around. MJ and Klay would be fantastic to see on both ends. I think Ron Harper would body up Steph enough to bother him. Steve Kerr and Toni Kukoc coming off the bench would be nice.

This Warriors team is amazing...that being said, I stopped watching halfway thru the third quarter of game 1. If this goes to a game 6 I'll jump back in. The Cav's suck on D and that's their biggest issue. D is heart and hustle...the Cavs don't have either. I tell my son to watch Klay Thompson on the defensive side of the ball. He's great on D. Wish he got more pub for that.

Yeah, I was about to say that myself but knew that someone else would chime in.
One of the many difficult games to handle during the years when the Sixers were very good. Only one championship and some tough finals losses, although they didn't lose to any lesser teams - Portland, LA, LA. Also, losing the Celtics series after holding a 3-1 series lead. Ouch. The Sixers would have stood a good chance of beating the Rockets in the finals that year. At least they were in the mix in those days.

Yes. I was a Sixers fan back then. Huge disappointment. But Magic was just incredible.

Well, Magic did play center (rookie year) in a least one game and had one of the greatest games in NBA playoff history - 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists. Beat the Sixers. Ugh. I think that's the only time he played center though.

The fair comparison to Magic is LeBron, not KD. I'm not taking anything away from Magic by saying no one has ever done what KD does. Two very different players.

Great post, especially the part about Klay Thompson's defense. He fights through picks and stays on top of Kyrie Irving like a six legged mule. A real team player.

But as much as I love the Dubs, and as good as their Fab Four is, I am not ready to put them at the top of the heap. If they manage to sweep the Cavs and take another ring or two before they are done, then maybe.

I think they are clearly better than the old Celtics teams, because the NBA is just a lot more athletic than it was thirty years ago. Russell would be a star even today, and Havlicek could stiil play but guys like Cousy and Sharman could not, IMO, hang with today's players.

The Celtics of the 80's had, IMO, the best front line of all time. They could definitely hang with this Warriors team. I'd truly love to see McHale and KD matched up with each in their prime. It would be fun to watch Bird and Draymond trash talk each other. Bird would pwn.

The Showtime Lakers could also hang with these Warriors. Kareem would eat this Warriors team alive in the post. Pachulia could not begin to guard him. Klay would have a tough time checking Magic. But KD would give Worthy fits when the Warriors were on offense, and neither Norm Nixon, Byron Scott nor Michael Cooper could stay with Steph Curry.

That '83 Sixers team was no slouch, either. I think they could likely hang with this Warriors team.

It depends on the era and rules of when the game would occur. The game has totally change since the 90s Bulls. If these Warriors team played with the 90s rules, they'd be physically abused when hand checking was allowed. If the Bulls played in modern day rules, they don't have enough perimeter players to keep up with the Warriors ball movement and 3 pointers.

Vegas sets line for 72-10 Bulls team vs this years Warriors team. Give me the Bulls +8 any day

So true. Here is another one. For my money, the greatest team I ever saw as far as pure dominance was the 66-67 Sixers team with four Hall of Famers. I said to one friend, how would Golden State have ever got a rebound against Wilt, Luke Jackson, Walker, and Billy the Kid. Cunningham was a more athletic version of Charles and Luke and Wilt were granite twin towers.

I say this in jest realizing how great today's athletes are (even though none of them were as good athletically as Wilt) but there would be no driving the lane either providing you didn't want to be face planted on the hardwood.

That team started 46-4 and had to play the Celtics countless times given how few teams there were so they were playing an all time team every couple of night. Boston won 60 games that year as a point of reference. That team punished the NBA that year.
