For any Pitt fans who are lurking around here, and a lot of you do, this is what James Franklin said following the OSU game...

“[A] lot of programs put winning ahead of everything else, we’re not going to do this. I started coaching to make a difference in people’s lives and to educate young people so they go on and have a chance to be successful for the next 50 years. If it was just about winning I’d go coach in the NFL. The fact tonight that can not only send the message to Garrett but also to our whole team that there is nothing more important than getting an education, there is nothing more important than doing the right thing day in and day out. I don’t want you to take this the wrong way, Garrett Sickels is one of the best kids I’ve ever been around and comes from an unbelievable family but there is nothing better than when you can teach a lesson and do it the right way and win and it reinforces it for everybody and everybody knows that we’re going to make the right choices for these kids and for this program long term. We’re never going to put winning ahead of it. We’re never going to make it winning at all costs. We’re going to do it the right way here at Penn State, always have, always will.”

The difference between these two coaches is night and day.

I think it was worse, when before the Penn State game, he publically urged Pitt fans to be obnoxious.

Love the guy. Joe would be proud.

Narduzzi clarified it on twitter this morning, saying it was just a promo. It was 'like in the old days when you got an excuse from your parents to miss school'. He tweeted for students who had class to 'take care of business' by going to class, then get to a TV nearby to root for the Panthers. BTW, he said on the Fan this morning that he ran the idea through the AD so as not to create a problem with the faculty. You guys hate Narduzzi, I get that as PSU fans, but he is a team player with Pitt, and would not intentionally give Pitt bad PR.
BTW, congrats on your big win, I know how it made you guys feel, and gave you much optimism for the future.

As much as I dislike Narduzzi, I don't think he should be criticized for what was clearly tongue-in-cheek. Heck, Pat Chambers did something similar a year or so ago for our basketball team, albeit it was a work excuse and not class: http://btn.com/2015/03/12/photo-patrick-chambers-excuses-penn-state-fans-from-work-friday/
Agreed. There are valid reasons to be critical of people at times, but selectivity is the key. Some here are critical of everything Pitt, and that mirrors what occurs on the Pitt board regarding Penn State. I'm not suggesting it should not have been brought up, but any serious criticism is unwarranted.

Love Franklin's approach. I believe JF always had these intentions when becoming a college football coach. I wonder if his beliefs were further galvanized when learning the impact of "success with honor" had on our university? Kudos to JF!

Should have written the letter to the owners of the operas and museums. (I know 21, we play Purdue not Pitt but they're more fun to harass).

The best way to stick it to Pitt, is to beat Pitt...

NEXT YEAR.

In the mean time, the ONLY way to stick it to Pitt, is to keep winning and finish ahead of them in the polls. Therefore, beat Purdue.

And go Hokies tomorrow night.

"If it were only about winning I'd coach in the NFL." Yeah, well you wouldn't win there.
