The pregame showed a good path forward. The marching bands along with some local artists was very entertaining. How they missed on this was mind-blowing. The Super Bowl was in New Orleans, which is known for having great music.Yeah I agree, it was total trash. The rap/hip hop halftime shows are pretty unbearable to me, just not my cup of tea. The half time shows have been pretty awful the last decade or so. They really need to re-evaluate their approach in the future and try something different. Itās the most cringe part of the entire game
Once you are done putting down everyone's taste in music, maybe you could get back to this show which was pretty much just his personal vendetta against Drake. That's frankly sad and uninteresting no matter who the singer or what the genre. Overall, pretty low energy, the crowd isn't into it, the visuals aren't that great, etc.You might have an auditory processing disorder. While I can't always get every word (just like I can't on many pop or rock songs) most are intelligible, unless he goes on one of his faster chops, or he's using slang with which I'm not familiar (which does happen more frequently as I age). He's actually a great lyricist ... he's a pretty thoughtful cat.
Bless your heart!Yeah, but when Elvis was swigging his hips along with Little Richard, we didn't have "139 people shot" in one Memorial Day weekend in Chicago. In fact, Chicago was a great city at that time, but has turned into a shit hole of crime along with all the other cities in America.
Keep making excused like Biden, " the biggest crime problem in America is the "White Supremist"
In a two week period there was the Chinese girl pushed in front on subway in NYC, the female cop in Illinois on the ground begging for her life, shot and killed, the beautiful girl in LA working in a furniture store stabbed and killed, the two PO's and a fireman shot and killed in Minneapolis, and the four PO's shot and killed in NC. You never hear about these murders, and Hollywood never attended and of the funerals. Wonder why???
Keep making excuses for the violence that was not around when Elvis and Little Richard were doing there thing!
LOL! Playing the victim now? This whole thread is an opportunity for out of touch oldenheimers to crap on rap music. Nothing more. Well, except for some of these oldenheimers to extend said criticism to other perceived societal and political issues. But, one post after proclaiming you couldn't understand anything that was said, and passive-aggressively critiquing the substance by claiming kids told you that you wouldn't want to know what was said, you're now accusing me of "putting down everyone's taste in music."Once you are done putting down everyone's taste in music, maybe you could get back to this show which was pretty much just his personal vendetta against Drake. I was going to correct somebody and say Pulitzer-Prize winning Kendrick, but you've made the point for me. Sara Ganim has a Pulitzer Prize, too. Being kind I'll just say I'm not that impressed by some of the committee's choices.LOL. You cite one guy who's been dead for 50 years, and another that's about to turn 90 ... and then "other black artists" and this is your best attempt to show that you're not clueless and out of touch? I heard a rumor there might be 1/100th black in Beethoven's bloodline ... maybe you can cite him, too?
For distinguished musical composition by an American that has had its first performance or recording in the United States during the year, Fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000).
DAMN., by Kendrick Lamar
Recording released on April 14, 2017, a virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism that offers affecting vignettes capturing the complexity of modern African-American life.
DAMN.
By Kendrick Lamar
Storytelling has been Lamarās greatest skill and most primary mission, to put into (lots of) words what it's like to grow up as he didāto articulate, in human terms, the intimate specifics of daily self-defense from your surroundings. Somehow, heās gotten better.

Go sell this nonsense somewhere else.
I've already commented that having Kendrick as the lead/sole performer wasn't the best choice, because his vibe isn't the high energy, flashy stuff that catches eyeballs and ears at a halftime Super Bowl performance, with the masses as the audience. As I've said, I'm taking issue with the folks who are going beyond "it's not my cup of tea" and otherwise legitimately critiquing and commenting on the performance to ignorantly bash Kendrick and rap, generally (and some are extending that criticism further). "I couldn't even understand him! This isn't even considered "music"! This is why we have violence!" And so on.
And, no, it wasn't pretty much a personal vendetta against Drake ... that was only a smart part of his performance.
The post? Or the thread? If the former, my post was fine. Thanks. If the latter, the thread was just old white guys bathing in their slop of saying the show stank, and they hate rap (and implying other things, which eventually came out). After I appeared, it was just old white guys bathing in their slop of saying the show stank, and they hate rap (and implying and outright stating other things). And me.This post was fine until you showed up.
And if you don't understand that almost every detail of this performance was a shot at Drake, you're not as in touch as you think you are.
Actually, I stated how I drew my conclusion. If I wanted to live to a ripe old age, I would sing country, not rap. Call it what you want, I call it fact. By the way, incessant name calling is not nice on a board. At least you admitted to your ignorance and prejudgment.
Also, if you read my response to Hotturd, the data doesn't say what you think it says ... because even the oldest rappers aren't geriatric, yet, which necessarily skews the information.
What other things were implied? I mean you pulled the race card but who else did?The post? Or the thread? If the former, my post was fine. Thanks. So, it appears much of nothing changed.
And, as I said, there were elements pointed at Drake, but the overall theme was something different. Uncle Sam Jackson slapped you across the face with it, in case you weren't catching on ... and you still didn't get it, apparently. That's a you problem.

Art is in the eyes and/or ears of the beholder. So nobody gets to tell me Iām out of touch or ignorant or too old and too white to have my own opinion.
I do not enjoy rap, and it doesnāt matter who is performing it. I personally donāt regard it as āmusic.ā To me, it is the distracting garble of someone reading a script overtop of some background noise. Too often the words cannot be understood. Iām not willing to work that hard to hear some message in which I have no interest.
That is the personal opinion of one old white guy. And I believe this thread started with someone asking folks about their opinion of the halftime show.
For those that like it, knock yourself out. Just donāt expect me to listen to it.
I think people really enjoyed Snoop Dog/Dr. Dre/50 Cent. And I don't recall many complaints about Usher or Rhianna- they were both somewhat entertaining for me. Lots of people loved Prince. And it's pretty much universally agreed that Whitney Houston did the best National Anthem of all time. So now it's only about race if certain people choose to try to make it about race. But in reality it's actually about shitty music performed poorly.Art is in the eyes and/or ears of the beholder. So nobody gets to tell me Iām out of touch or ignorant or too old and too white to have my own opinion.

I think it was a shot at more than just Drake. This post was fine until you showed up.

Iāll disagree somewhat. For halftime shows there is Prince, and then there is everyone else. No one even comes close to his performance.

Coming from someone who in the recent past posted 50+ times a day on the current events board, but didn't want to spend $50/yr to go to premium, and is the first poster to cry to the moderators if someone posts anything that you think is even the least bit political, it's interesting that you are the only one to make this political. Not only that, but you ONLY seem to post on the football board when the topic is borderline political. Should I cry to the moderators?
Exhibit A. Holy crazy.Nonsense, go look at all the robberies, shoplifting, smash and grabs for billions of dollars worth of merchandise that the tax payers get billed for. Let alone all the murders that the "liberal press" refuses to address. Let it happen the other way around once a year and there is non stop press coverage. Stop making excuses for these violent criminals who bleed of society.

The show was terrible.Love Kendrick. Show was fine.
The show was terrible.
But to each his/her own. But what was really disturbing was giving prime television real estate to air gang-related grievances/accusations.
The NFL should be embarrassed.

So all that nonsense that was in multiple sources did not really happen?"Gang-related grievances/accusations" .... Bahahahaha!
We should have had Dueling Banjos play throughout halftime to appease some of the posters in this thread. Yikes.

Whatever the hell a Pulitzer is worth these days. Until many return theirs, itās worthless, just like what was presented at Halftime.Tell us what was "woke" about that show, scoobs?
Oddly enough, most folks would laugh at you calling disco "art," as it is widely disrespected.
I appreciate disco, motown and rap (and many other genres of music). It's not at all mutually exclusive. But Kendrick's music is FAR more cerebral than your typical disco or motown song.
Your characterization of Kendrick's music as "pretty much moaning into a microphone" is utterly ridiculous. You know the guy has a Pulitzer Prize for his music, right? Now is where you bash that as being "woke." He has Grammys on top of Grammys.
I agree with your last sentence even as a Chiefs fan.Yeah I agree, it was total trash. The rap/hip hop halftime shows are pretty unbearable to me, just not my cup of tea. U2 was good, and they had the backdrop of 9/11 to add lots of emotion to their performance. I still stand by my comment that Prince is the best SBHT show and I'll die on that hill. Everything fell into place to make his show unreal!Iāll disagree somewhat.
U2 played an awesome halftime show
