Hall to Penn RTC

Agreed, no surprise at all, He has a great relationship with Slay and he will be a force!

I'm excited for Mark. It might feel good to get some distance from the place his career ended so unceremoniously. I'll always be a gigantic fan of the guy regardless (provided he doesn't defect to Russia or something ;-) ).

I scrambled, but failed to find anything on weight classes in the announcements lol.

And I'd root for a Ruskie Mark Hall!

Hall is one of the coolest cats I've seen come through Penn State. I believe he would have put an ! on his career this year if NCAA's happened. Also, it seems like Slay and Cael are tied in very much so and being a few hours from SC isn't too bad!

From that press release:
"Mark will train with current PRTC athletes Mauro Correnti, Ben Honis, Ethan Lizak, David McFadden, Joey McKenna, Richard Perry, Dan Vallimont as well as wrestlers from the rapidly rising programs at Penn and Drexel."

Very encouraging to see Richard Perry among the current PRTC athletes, given his gruesome injury from 2 years ago.

Mark has a good set of training partners +/- a weight from him: Honis, McFadden, Perry, Vallimont. Plus his relationship with Slay, and some PSU alums in Pearsall and Vallimont. Not quite NLWC, but nothing to sneeze at, and he'll be in State College plenty. Plus he'll likely get an Ivy grad degree. Happy for him.

what's the minimum age for training at an RTC? crossing my fingers that marky will be around when my son is old enough. a father can dream...

Been watching a lot of Starocci's matches from HS on YouTube lately. He's definitely evolved in the year that he's been at SC. You can see how some of Hall's top game has rubbed off on him. Although, man, he's probably had more than a few rough days in the room under Mark Hall.

Given what's "out there" at 174, he could very well end up being a 3 time champion. He and Brooks are going to make for a great one-two combo in the lineup for the next couple of years. I'd be surprised if he isn't top 3 this year.

I've been "on record" that Starocci has had the what may be the most amazing growth between high school and the Southern Scuffle that I can recall. I felt since HS that his upside was basically unlimited - it's all up to him. Between his athletic ability, his developing wrestling skills and a mean streak that can't be taught, he can deliver the goods.

The minimum age is a 1st yr cadet (which is now called 16u). So if you place top 4 in the state in FS, Greco or HS folk style the yr you turn 15 You are eligible.

Is 174 the weight with the most PSU finalists in the Cael years?
I'm probably forgetting someone but here goes:
174 = 7 -- Ruth 1, Brown 2, Bo 1, Hall 3
184 = 6 -- Q 2, Ruth 2, Bo 2
165 = 6 -- Vallimont 1, Taylor 2, Cenzo 3
157 = 6 -- Taylor 2, Nolf 4
149 = 5 -- Molinaro 2, Zain 3
197 = 3 -- Q, Morgan, Bo 1 each
125 = 3 -- Nico 3
285 = 1 -- Cassar
133, 141 = 0

Nick Lee was ready to crack that 141 egg last year... Dang Covid!

Yeah. I was amazed at the gains that Brooks made between his first match against Chris Weiler (Lehigh) and B1G finals. Both in terms of his top game AND his motor.

Beard seems to have a better motor than I'd expect from a younger 197lb guy. Seems to struggle on bottom. See Clarion Open final vs Greg Bulsak.

Future looks bright at the back end of the lineup. Well, the entire lineup, really. Super excited to see what some of their redshirts (assuming Bartlett and Howard aren't in the lineup) do at open tournaments next year, too.

All of you keep overlooking Joe Lee. That’s a huge mistake. He is as good as, if not better, than the rest.

He's got great offense. Picked up two quick takedowns each against both Bullard and Wittlake at the Scuffle. When he gets a leg, clean, he's pretty automatic. Struggled when he got caught underneath Bullard. Bullard didn't score off any of his own shots, IIRC.

In his two losses he suffered the typical freshman can't-get-off-bottom-syndrome. Truth be told I'm not super familiar with Travis Wittlake's body of work, and he might be a super elite top guy. Lee also wasn't quite at Starocci's level when it comes to chain wrestling and converting those two point moves into more.

That said, a pretty damn good RS campaign. I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if (Joe) Lee AAs this year.
