Harbaugh - Lack of boundaries and immaturiy

My ire is not that it is Michigan. I know for some that it would be hard to believe, but I would feel equally strong if a PSU coach was to do what Harbaugh allegedly did with Jordin. It is "inappropriate" and far beyond the pale. I know we lose recruits that we feel have committed to the program. That is part and parcel of this recruitment nonsense. The NCAA could make this more sane if they elected to do so - but I think they like the circus and the attention drawn. And, I suspect that you are right that there may even be more sinister practices than this nonsense with Harbaugh. In that case, maybe it is time for a major investigation into college recruiting that might lead to some new policies, boundaries, and practices developed that respects the fact that these are still children in a strange way; even physiologically there brains have not fully developed, let alone their minds. Harbaugh is a caricature of everything that is wrong. Sorry, but on this one I must vent.
Amen. My sentiments to the letter. He is on a self destruct course and hopefully the Michigan administration will be advised of it internally and help him. He needs limits.

Agree that at least 50% is Nordins fault. There is a simplestatement he could have said and this would have stopped months ago.... " No thanks I am solid to PSU".

If Jimmy heard that 5-10 times he would have moved on.

Yea, it's the high school kid's fault, not the adult coach being paid several million by the University of Michigan who is telling the high schooler, "hey, mind if I show up at your parent's house at midnight on a weeknight and then have a sleepover in your bedroom. Then we'll skip school in the morning and I'll drive to AA with you...".... If you say so BroTato Chip, but I think you're confusing who is supposed to be the responsible adult here...who is supposed to represent the "values" and "mission" of his institution.

Let me guess. Harbaugh's wife kicked him out and he's looking for places to sleep?

You realize that some 'kids' about 1 year older than Nordin are serving in our military. I think if an 18 year old can carry an m-16, be part of a tank crew, be a front line foot soldier ready to take an enemy round ..... Then poor little Nordin can maybe nut it up and tell a football coach ' no'.

I HATE this defense that these are 'kids' therefore they are totally relieved of any responsibility. Let Nordin spend 1 day with the 18 year olds serving in our military and I bet he'd grow the fortitude to tell Jimmy 'no thanks I made a commitment'.

I have followed the "antics" of Jim Harbaugh in relation to the recruitment of Quinn Jordin. His behavior, simply put, is outrageous and should be condemned. It takes recruiting to a place that it should not be, where a family and young man are intruded upon and pressured beyong the already excessive pressure that is part of recruiting HS talent. The vaunted NCAA should step in and stop this dog and pony show. Harbaugh's actions are classless, tasteless, immature, and violates the healthy boundaries that should be respected and protected. How can a young man make any sort of considered choice when he has a coach saturating him with time, praise and overly close behaviors. As far as I concerned, I would pull the offer to Quinn so that he can comfortably go to Michigan. By doing this, I believe that we might stand above the crowd and the nonsense that is occurring with Mr. Harbaugh. And by the way, as a parent, I would never permit my child to experience this situation. What the heck is going on with them? Are they basking in the momentary spectacle of this circus? Yes, I know, recruiting can be "hardball," but this is over the top and should be condemned. Could you imagine for a moment, JoePa or Saban doing a "sleepover." Where the hell are the boundaries that are essential to healthy development. We have seen at PSU what can happen when boundaries are disregarded.

Dear OP: you do realize Nordin could've simply said "no thanks," correct? Spare me all the righteous indignation.

LOL @ Penn state of all programs calling harbaugh creepy. Also, you discussing boundaries but your coach just committed a recruiting violation with levert hill smh

Another clueless idiot, on both accounts.

Try again, dipshit.

As a therapist that works with this age group, there is some truth to your assertions. However, they are also prone to those who make appeals to their narcissism, and that is what Harbaugh is doing in my opinion. They did fight and die in Vietnam and other wars, but there is still an element of immaturity that makes them vulnerable. Their parents (in this case Nordin's parents) should step in and exercise some influence and judgement in these situations.

Sure, by Michigan fans. Who and when if you want credibility. If it happened, and I have been following PSU for decades and subscribed to BW Illustrated since the early 1990's, I have never seen it reported. Hey, I understand the Michigan coach tortures small animals. It is now posted, does that make it true? Which Penn State coach slept at a recruits house and who was the recruit. If it happened some PSU fan would remember and I would like to think there is enough integrity among the PSU fans to speak up. If it happened, it should not have because it is above beyond appropriate.
See Sandusky.

Sort of like parading a kid around center court at a basketball game so thousands of fans can chant his name?

Somehow you totally avoided the topic that ALL OF THE IDEAS were those of the supposed-adult Harbaugh who is being paid millions by the University of Michigan to represent and run their Football Program including recruiting tactics! It was HARBAUGH'S IDEA to show up at MIDNIGHT on a weekday at the kid's parents' family's home (contrary to your claim, Nordin is still a minor high school student, not a graduated high school student in the military!). It was also HARBAUGH'S SUGGESTION that he "sleepover" at the Nordin household - a middle-aged supposed-adult stalker sleeping in their child's BEDROOM! But it is all the high school kid's fault? LMFAO at you scUM apologists and spinners - whatever you say BroTatoe Chip!

A kid who had signed Financial Aid Documents to attend PSU already! Funny how you left that part out! So you claim that schools are not allowed to introduce a fellow student who had just signed paperwork to go to PSU despite this announcement taking place at virtually every institution in the nation including Michigan, you arrogant, hypocritical POS troll.

See Sandusky.

Hey dope, Sandusky slept over with kids that he FORMALLY ADOPTED FROM THE STATE via State-Licensed Adoption Agencies or participants in his State-Licensed Charities....or his State-Licensed and reimbursed "Group Homes".....or his State-Licensed participation in "Foster Parenting Programs", etc.... None of Sandusky's efforts in regards to supposed philanthropic activities (including adoption, group homes, a state-licensed and approved children's dedicated charity, etc...) had jack $hit to do with PSU Football Recruiting, nor did PSU's Head Coach have anything whatsoever to do with Sandusky's State-Licensed Adoption, Mentoring, Group Home and Personal Children's Dedicated Charity work and it most certainly had nothing to do with PSU Football or PSU Football Recruiting you f'ing ignorant POS scUM troll. Go F yourself with your intentional lies, libel and slander of PSU and her Football Program -- what a f'ing @sshole that pulls this crap as a "guest" on a PSU Board!

I didn't make any such claim. Read the post again and understand the context prior to losing your mind.

Not sure what the real story is but some of these responses are downright funny. I respect what Harbaugh has done with the Michigan Program and having the current #2 recruiting class is pretty impressive.
