I believe that he was athletic coming out of HS, but not sure if it was more technique or strength, or a combination, but he's not quite been ready for prime time. All the talk has been about who is going to start, but I'm always interested in knowing whether guys like Jenkins will eventually do what he has to do to move up the depth chart. Anyone have any info or thoughts?

I thought he looked ok on pass protection. Couldn't gauge much on the run.

I thought Jenkins did ok, but on the whole IMO the white line looked a bit overmatched, which realisticly going against the ones it should. Also, although you couldnt hit the qb, there was quite a bit of blitzing, which you dont normaly see . That caused a bit of a problem on the young guys.

I think it was Shareef Miller who beat him on consecutive plays by going outside and underneath. Replay the tape, after the second one you'll see Franklin with a frustrated expression on his face mouthing the word "Jenkins" directly after (pretty good at lip reading;)).

Unfortunately, I think he is one of those players Franklin refers to when he mentions "certain players just don't respond when the lights come on". Just my 2 cents (and a little tin hat I know) but I'm pretty good at reading people. His body language is not good when he screws up or has a sub-par play. The good ones visibly get upset with themselves.....Jenkins just sort of hides.

Like I said, just my two cents, but I don't think Jenkins will ever be the player we envisioned. Wright is a much better player and we probably have 4 other tackles that are better (Bates, Mahon, Nelson, Fries). Can't see a light there which is disappointing, after this year he may be a transfer candidate.

The other way to look at that, is that Shareef Miller is going to be pretty good, that's the beauty of the spring game; Glass can be half full, or half empty.

I agree, exactly what I was thinking.

Not what Franklin was thinking though. He clearly mouths "Jenkins" and has a frustrated look on his face. Jenkin's outside punch is very much lacking right now. He's so big he should be able to put some guys on their backs with a good punch. No reason to let a guy 80 pounds lighter inside and under. No nastiness.....he should be a bully at that weight!

I focused a lot on Jenkins when he played in the 2nd half and he did not look capable of stopping an outside speed rusher whatsoever. Did not like his body posture when he sat at the end of the White bench in the first half. I won't go so far as to label him a bust, but he has a lot of soul searching and work to do.

Considering that he was a generally considered a project (I believe that he didn't even make all conference team in HS), I don't think that the term "bust" would apply no matter how little contribution he ends up providing. Because of this, I also wouldn't quit on him yet... maybe something will click down the road or the coaches will find a role for him (D tackle?).

This is very true. Remember what people thought of Mahon after his RSo year ... that he was a bust and couldn't cut it at this level. Then BAM the light comes on last season and was (arguably) PSU's best and most versatile OL until his injury/illness forced him out of the lineup.
