Here is an update and the latest on the situation with Penn State's game with San Jose State scheduled on Sept. 19 at Beaver Stadium. First we all know that on Tuesday [May 12] the California State University system announced most classes at the system's 23 campuses across the state of California will be taught on line this fall. San Jose State is a member of that system and is administered by that system.

As stated in an article in the Centre Daily Times Friday morning [May 15], California State University system chancellor Timothy White said the plan allows for limited exceptions that will allow some students--basically some doing hands-on medical studies, and others in certain research fields and the performing arts--but no plan was discussed for student/athletes to be welcomed back as part of that.

At this point San Jose State has not commented on the viability of athletics with the campus being closed or partially open according to this morning's article in the Centre Daily Times.

As we all know that could turn out to be a major problem for the Penn State--San Jose State football game that is scheduled to be played at Beaver Stadium on Sept. 19. Penn State said in a statement on Wednesday [May 13] the game with San Jose State "remains on the schedule at this time."

The Centre Daily Times article this morning also stated that San Jose State has not commented on how remote learning in the fall will effect athletics, but San Diego State athletic director, John David Wicker, told the San Diego Union--Tribune on Wednesday [May 13] that the Aztecs remain committed to having a sports season in the fall anyway. San Diego State is also a member of the California State University system.
