Hey trout fishermen (and women) WV stocking 25,000 golden rainbows

Post Gazette has an article on the stocking. Average size 18 inches. First week of April in 30 streams across the state. Article has list of streams.
Went to article but could not find the list of streams. By any chance was the North Branch of the Potomac at Barnum one of the streams? They have put a few in previously. (personally i don't care for them since i am convinced they never eat anything for their whole life. )

Here are some photos of what real Trout are supposed to look like (these are photos that I have taken), these are all wild trout:

Brook Trout - Big Spring Creek

And here is a photo of a monstrosity. These fish are a waste of time and resources. The only purpose they should serve is reserved for kids fishing derbies.. I stole this from google as I will not waste my time with these fish. When I catch one, I keep it just so it does not attract other anglers and so that I do not have to look at the damn things in the streams anymore...

List in the paper is mainly lakes in state parks and 'wildlife management areas' It lists North Bend SP and South Branch Potomac , Smoke Hole section.

Also has a website www.wvfish.com

Back when I lived south of Buffalo NY I fished the Lake Erie tribs often for trout and salmon. One of the interesting observations was the Palomino Rainbows that would show up in a small trib called Big Sister Creek. I would catch these rainbows in the Fall while fishing for steelhead and standard rainbows. Best I could figure they were migrants from Pa. streams stocked in the Erie Pa. area since at that time during the late 70s, early 80s, it was Pa. that stocked the Palominos. I never caught, nor saw, a golden Palomino Rainbow in any other Lake Erie trib and I fished all of them from Buffalo down to the Pa. border. So why did they like Big Sister Creek?

I don't know much about fresh water fishing but I do a lot of salt water fishing.

I was cleaning some litter along the creek near my house. I noticed clams. ARe fresh water clams common in Pa streams?

are they clams or mussels? There are plenty of fresh water mussels, I dont know about clams.

ct; I have no idea how or why those fish were there. I will say that these fish that WV is stocking are not palominoes. When pals breed they produce a mixture of straight rainbows, pals, and goldens. If you breed goldens to goldens, they will produce only goldens....according to article in paper. But so few survive that they do not, or very rarely reproduce in nature.

j. There are a lot of clams in the rivers that are clean enough to support them. Watched some college kids sample, trap, and relocate a lot of clams when the state was replacing an old bridge over the Allegheny at Foxburg. They said there were a lot of different species, some pretty rare. The French Creek inn Venango and Crawford Counties is famous for having a large variety of fresh water species in it, including clams.

The never ending struggle between elitist fly fishers who have loved their overcrowded, protected waters to death and meat fishermen who drown worms to catch trout that taste like mud.
A fly fisherman acting like an elitist snob? Say it aint so.

Not elitist in any way... Why the hell do you want modified fish to swim in waters with other fish??? please explain to me how a bright yellow fish is natural and how the hell it is worth the effort?????? and I never once said anything about fly fishing vs "meat fisherman" NOT 1 DAMN thing... So get over yourself

Limestone ... did you guess my sig pic?

LOL I love throwing Sculpins (I assume you mean your profile pic as no Sig pic is showing up on my work computer)... But be careful, you will be labeled an elistist snob who hates "meat fisherman" and "worm dunkers" because of that profile pic... Quick question, what is the head material on those ties? Wool or trimmed dubbing?

I know that there are plenty of Mussels and they are vital for clean water, but I cannot find anything about clams in PA. Here is 2 links from the PFBC about mussels:

Interesting , this afternoon the Maryland stocking report showed up on my screen announcing they had stocked 900 Goldens in the North Branch at Barnum. Good grief!

Grizzly craft fur and an olive green prismacolor marker. I can do one in about 4 minutes

There are also the invasive varieties like Zebra Mussels and Quagga Mussels. A common invasive clam is the Asian Clam. I have found them in Ct. They were big in the aquarium trade and probably get dumped into local waters by someone giving up on their aquarium and releasing whatever was in it. Eurasian Water Milfoil is another example of an invasive that has taken off this way. Below is a link to the invasive Asian Clam. You can recognize them as tiny clam shells, about one inch long, with a flaked outer side showing white splotches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corbicula_fluminea

The zebra mussels are also one of the main reasons that Lake Erie is "clean" from studies, but now is removing native mussels and clams from the ecosystem. Pretty interesting stuff... Sometimes I wish I would have continued on to become a Fisheries Biologist from PSU instead of switching over to Geology (got my associates, but decided I enjoy money too much to become the fisheries biologist that I always wanted to be).

I don't know how your comments could be anything else. You told the OP that something he was clearly interested in is a waste of time and should be reserved for children. I doubt he started the thread to be insulted. Your pics of real fish, labeled with famous waterways, and efforts to keep other fisherman away are all classic fly fisherman. It wasn't hard to see. Fly fisherman have had a reputation for this for a looong time. You're starting to see it now with bowhunters talking about gun hunters. I don't know why people take themselves so seriously.

I happen to agree with your opinions on fish that have come from concrete runs eating pellets their whole lives. Just try not to be a jerk about it. The number of folks that still go out and enjoys PA's wilds is dwindling. I think we should encourage anyone that has interest.

You do realize that you can fish all the streams i listed with your worms or whatever else you want right??? I have very strong opinions on this subject (stocked vs wild fish) and thats how it came off. I did not even mention the ways of catching those fish. That is all you guys reaching... And as for keeping people away, please pay attention before "trout season" and look at the spots with those bright neon yellow fish, and compare the number of people in that area vs others. Its obvious, and has absolutely nothing to do with how the heck ya fish... I could honestly care less, as long as your within the rules.

WV and Pa stock these in an attempt to get more people to fish.Kids love them and that gets dad or mom or someone to take them also out and about. It is critical to keep fishing alive for if license sales continue to drop there will be little left in 10-15 yrs.

Don't really care who likes them, hates, them or whatever. And if you are such a purist then you should be against having other trout in the waters like all rainbows and brown trout since neither are natives. Maybe we should eliminate all wild pheasants as they are not native either. Kill the elk since eastern elk are extinct and these are westerns that have been transplanted.

WWhhhaaattteevveerr!!

LOL again how in the hell are you getting purist from my posts? And again, you are mistaking Native fish with WILD fish. I have never once mentioned removing any fish other than Palomino trout. But go ahead and try again
