Yes, and counted off 1-2-3-4 and pointed at Nolf for 5... He doesn't lack for confidenceLast night Ironhead said that when Berger's match was over, Berger pointed over at Nolf whose match was still going on. Talks the talk about Jason but can't walk the walk.

Got to believe. But no need to demonstrate it publicly. Bad manners. Attention whore. Nolf really has something to prove now. Poor Berger.Yes, and counted off 1-2-3-4 and pointed at Nolf for 5... He doesn't lack for confidence![]()

Thanks, b/c I just figured he was gesturing to Nolf as well. My photo doesn't pick it up but right after this he also put up a single finger and mouthed "one more" (which could go either way, either to Nolf or the Nebraska section). (But it also doesn't really matter.)The Nebraska section was across Nolf’s mat in the end zone area; I was between mats basically and it appeared to me that he was pointing to his fan section (as almost all of them do) and not Nolf. Berger is a total douchecanoe and deserves the beating he’s going to get tonight, but at least in person this looked pretty benign.
People need to pump the brakes on Hidlay. I give him major props for his performance against Jason, but after last night's match people were posting things like it will be the last loss of his career, and that he's a future 2 timer etc. Do people realize just how difficult achieving those things are?
Sorry I don't see it. Jason himself admitted that he didn't wrestle well, and that he allowed Hidlay to dictate the action. JMO but the competitiveness of last night's match had more to do with a clash of styles than it did the relative greatness of Hidlay. Jason has always "struggled", by his standards at least, with wrestlers who are stout in stature, wrestle a physical style, and utilize under hooks and ties. Consider his results against guys like Imar and Pantaleo. Hidlay is pretty similar.
Could he go on and win the next two national titles? Sure. Do I think he will? eh... Guys that win two national titles are often supremely talented but run up against other wrestlers on the same career trajectory. Consider a group like Askren, Oliver, Burroughs, DT, Gwiz, Dean, and Imar. Jason clearly has been Hidlay's Obstacle to overcome, but is he really in this class?
The other end of the spectrum are the 2 timers that while being really talented seem to possess incredible luck. Guys like Russell, Delgado, Heil, and Nelson come to mind for me. When you consider that in recent years guys like Ramos, Nico, Garrett, Brown, Martin, and Tomo could only get to the top of the mountain once speaks just to how daunting the task is to accomplish. Hidlay would need to go 2-2 to separate himself from these guys.

I think he's counting swipes when the Matrix puts the bow and arrow on his arse.

He is signaling how many of his own fingers Jason is going to shove up his own butt. Either that or how many times Jason will beat him in one season, with tonight being so ugly it will count as two. I hope he gets Jordaned. Its like this kid has no memory.
Me thinks it reeks more of false bravado. Hidley actually wrestled Nolf. Nothing Berger does tonight will be reflective of wrestling to win anything, he will be doing what he always does. Trying his best not to get Teched.Yes, and counted off 1-2-3-4 and pointed at Nolf for 5... He doesn't lack for confidence![]()
I think you are over-correcting here. While stating he may never lose again could be a bit a victim of the moment, Hidlay isn’t a slouch. He’s a 2x AA, National finalist and if he stays 157, he’s the prohibitive favorite for 2020 in a weight that clears out pretty well for him.
Hidlay can and should be a 2x champ. That's not a reaction from last night -- I thought that during last year's nationals, even before the finals.
However, he is not the lock to win 2 titles that Myles Martin is.
Not saying he deserved to win I just was surprised the takedown was taken away. Anybody not named Nolf that wouldn't have happened imo.
I guess you didnt comprehend. Sorry. Let me clarify. Hidlay got screwed out of a takedown, but I'm not saying that changed the result of the match. Nolf still could've won.You literally said that he got screwed one post prior, but now you're not saying he deserved to win? Ok.![]()
Can and should are worlds apart IMO. I do believe that this line of thinking, if not by you, is for many a result of his close loss to Jason last night. What you say about Martin reaffirms just how difficult winning 2 really is. Going into the tournament I had him on par odds wise with Jason and Bo as potential champs. Would people be more shocked to see Hidlay lose next year than Martin last night? Unlikely.
I happen to think Pantaleo is a damn good wrestler. I think Hidlay has a similar style, but is better. Is there something in that you disagree with? For the few who think a kid who has finished 2nd and 3rd (little assumption) with only 2 losses to Jason Nolf is Pantaleo version 2 Hidley just smacked the snot out of Deakin and will do the same to Pantaleo.
There is always the possibility someone rises up and gets Hidley, but if Hidley maintains good health it is going to take someone really good to rise up the high.
So far the kid has two losses at NCAAs and they are to some guy named Jason Nolf. And maybe I’ll lose my Penn State fandom card, but I don’t feel that it’s assured that Nolf wins that match regardless. He said himself afterward that he let Hidlay dictate the pace. You’re saying he needs to win 2 to be in the conversation and I feel strong enough about his resume thus far that he is in the conversation until he takes himself out of it.
Yup - Moore had a close loss against Cox a few years ago and many were saying he’s a 3 timer. He may not even win 1. Just because guys graduate in front of you doesn’t automatically make you the best.People need to pump the brakes on Hidlay. Pantaleo is a good, tough competitor. No matter how many times he wrestles Nolf, he is not going to wrestle to win it.I happen to think Pantaleo is a damn good wrestler. I think Hidlay has a similar style, but is better. Is there something in that you disagree with?
Pantaleo smacked the snot out of Deakin at Big Tens by the way. It's been done before.
Not saying he deserved to win I just was surprised the takedown was taken away. Anybody not named Nolf that wouldn't have happened imo.
