Hockey #1 in latest Pairwise rankings.

Awesome! I am really hoping they make it to Cincy US Bank for regional this year. Love to watch and support them!

Have a 4 game home stand coming up. A MSU team that has struggled all season. then OSU at home who will probably be in top 15. A chance to get 4 wins and 2 against a top team, could help keep us near the top. Hopefully they have knocked off the rust from Christmas break.

Are these the official rankings? Does AP have a wrestling ranking?

For all intents and purposes, they are (and they have nothing to do with the AP). The pairwise attempts to mimic the automated criteria that the NCAA selection committee uses to select the at-large teams for the tournament. While no one from the NCAA has ever said that the pairwise is exactly the same as what they use, the pairwise rankings have never projected a pick that was different from the NCAAs - so it's reasonable to assume they're pretty damn close if not identical.

If the tournament were to start this week, we would be the #1 overall seed.

State College is pretty much exactly midway between Cincinnati and Providence, another regional site. The #1 overall seed is supposed to be placed in the closest regional. The committee could justify sticking us in either one.

I would think Penn State would be much more likely to be sent to Midwest than northeast. It may be equal distant but there are far more northeast schools that can impact attendance in Providence. Harvard is current #2 overall. Pairwise is only poll/ranking that matters. It's still early, b/c SOS and comparisons are big components, but Penn St is in good shape to make tourney.

Furthermore, it's my understanding that PairWise rankings are updated daily.

Don't forget to come to the Wells Fargo arena in Philadelphia to see our Lions take on the Princeton Tigers in Gadowwski's homecoming at 7 pm on January 28th. It should be a great time. Let's white out the arena with a big sell out crowd.

If we stay 1-4, it won't matter that there are a lot more schools in the NE. It would only matter who the other top four schools were.

Right now those four schools are:

1. Penn State
2. Harvard
3. Minnesota-Duluth
4. Denver

The four regional sites are Providence, Fargo, Manchester NH, Cincinnati

Penn State and Harvard would get assigned to the eastern sites, Duluth and Denver would get Fargo and Cincinnati.

PSU would go to Providence, Harvard would go to Manchester. Whichever team was ranked higher between Minn-Duluth and Denver would get Fargo and the other would be sent to Cincinnati
