read the defense or get open? You bench them. There is no scheme for that. If we lose Saturday, bench Thompkins, Johnson and Polk and give more developement time to the younger players.

There is no commandment for treating mistakes in a uniform fashion. Players are not computer chips in some video game.....to be discarded and replaced with new. A coaches decision is likely made on a case by case basis. Is the player putting forth effort, otherwise doing everything asked of him? Are his potential replacements clearly better in practice? While fans think....hey put Joe in the game.....let's see what happens. That's not how it works. For every second of game film, many hours of practice video and reps are logged and evaluated. While there are some athletes that shrink on game day and others that seem to puff up.....I can tell you that the overwhelming % of athletes give you a very reliable prediction of their game day capabilities in practice. When coaches are confident they have better options, they will take them.
One last mitigating factor.....when you turn away from an upper class man, you should be prepared to be done with him. Benching can knock the pins out from under a veteran whose mistakes are not effort based. This forces coaches to calculate such a move and sometimes work a replacement in gradually.

we don't need to wait until we lose to make the decision that just about everyone knows needs to be made....can't trust Johnson across the middle, Brandon Polk should be moved down the depth chart, hippenhammer same as Polk. After 7 games, our coaches should have seen enough to where different players should see the field.

So, junior, exactly who SHOULD be in the WR rotation? IYHO.
That's the rub. Behind Polk and Hippenhammer you have Thompkins, Sullivan-Brown, Dotson, George and Shorter (still injured?). I'm leaving out 5 or 6 guys on the roster listed as WR.

11/10/17 Army football almost never passes and almost always wins.....In three of its seven victories and four of its nine games, Army has not completed a pass. Last Saturday, in a 21-0 thumping of Air Force, it did not even attempt a pass. For the season, the Black Knights have completed 16 of 56 attempts for 266 yards while rushing for 3,289. Their leading receiver in terms of yardage, junior running back Jordan Asberry, has caught three passes for 78 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown. Their top wideout, Ejekam, has caught two passes for 48 yards.

Let's just bench everyone !!

TBH that is not the way you go about things. I know you're no coach Mary, but you give them confidence, keep feeding them. The catches will come, these are guys who are known to catch balls in the past, things will change. Trust the coaching and things will take care of itself.

Here's a start....fundamentals
  • "Not focusing on the ball: This sounds obvious, but too many receivers lose focus on the ball before making a catch. Coaches work to eliminate this in different ways. Some coaches talk about “taking a picture of the ball” before it’s caught, while others go as far as marking an “X” on the nose of the ball to force receivers to stare at it before they make a catch."
  • "Not adjusting to the ball: Quarterbacks, particularly young ones, don’t always put the ball where it's supposed to be. This is why receivers need to learn how to adjust to poorly thrown balls and still make the reception. This is something that must be taught and drilled daily."
  • "Not running through the catch: In today's world of wide-open offenses, yards-after-catch is of utmost importance. When receivers don’t run through the catch, they stop their feet, which in turn allows a defender to separate from the ball. Receivers must realize their job is not over once they catch the ball. They have to do something with it, which is why teaching receivers to run through the catch is so critical."

Have Jordan Norwood come by a practice to demonstrate.
Actually Gesicki would be a great guy to speak to the WRs. He had the drops early on and became Mr. Automatic with almost no drops for the next 2 seasons. Having him share some tips regarding not only pass catching but also how to adjust the mental mindset might be helpful. I'm sure the coaches are already doing things like this.

I have only seen Sullivan- Brown do good things, like catch passes. He seems very dependable if not flashy.

I just rewatched the Indiana game. Can we please take Polk out. He cannot catch or block or anything. He did recover onside kick but technically he didn’t because their was a timeout. Lol
