285 no. JJ is a football player. I hope to see him crushing people on Saturdays the next 4 years. I think he will be great on the punt return unit next year.

That is 9 AA's this year! Book it, unless an injury occurs.

Thanks for sharing your magic mirror!

In other years these predictions would have only been seen through blue and white eye shades. This year they are not unreasonable.

We're fans. We discuss this stuff 24/7. As such, there's nothing wrong with your post or your projections.

I'd just throw in a note a caution that it's November, the season isn't even a month old, and there are so many variables that each member of a team faces, as well as each person they meet in B1Gs and NCAAs.

I try to refrain from allowing myself to make projections until near the end of the season, when many (not all) of the aforementioned variables can be identified and we have a better sense of what's realistic.

At this point in the season your projection of 9 AAs seems within the realm of possibilities, though enthusiasm probably runs wild with fans of many other programs. It certainly will be fun to see how things end up.

Like your optimism, though chances are you'll miss on several of the guys.

Assuming 20 bonus points, your minimum total (using the lowest finish above) is 118 points, while the maximum total (using the highest finish) is 169.5 points. Picking 118 points as the minimum possible is very optimistic.

Iowa set the record in 1997, with 170 in Gable's final year. Penn State's highest total was 143 in 2012, and we won the championship with 107.5 (our lowest total when winning the championship in the Cael years).

EDIT: Just saw Tom's post...he's wise beyond his years, lol...

I also predicted 10 AA's a few years back. It was when our Alton's were wrestling as sophomores. KR and I were joking around about my blue tinted glasses.

The glass is always full gang!!!

Roar... I will go with 118 points. you pick your number. If you are closer, I will send you a cheesecake. or a key lime pie. If you lose, you must declare that I am the GREAT PROGNOSTICATOR!

Those Hawkeyes. They can be a punch to your gut or a push in the back... or a shove out of bounds or a head slap when you least expect it... but it's hard to hate them when they're prematurely sending out "heart felt" and "gracious congratulations" all the way from Iowa. Precious souls. Makes you almost want to hug a Hawk. Almost. o_O

To get back on topic... I was thinking that we could have some fun predicting where the kids would place. Even if it were from other schools. I do not put lofty expectations on 20 year old's, but watching them compete is much fun.

So I am putting this bet out there.. Thanks to Roar, I will set the mark at 118 for PSU for Nationals. If the closest person comes closer than I, before Jan. 1, I will ship you a free cheesecake or keylime pie. If I am closer than you, you must say the Optimism Rules !!!!

Given your picks, figure you'd split the difference and go 144. I believe it'll be closer to 118 as well, though it's way early. And sorry, but I cannot bet.

Roar, I don't know if you can tell by my writing, but I am very excited about this season.

My kid loves Mighty Mouse, she is knitting him at hat. The last one she made was for Ed.

Lion, I am a glass always full guy.

That was was my take at worst case.

I see worst case scenario as a little worse:
125: 4th
133: 2-2 - rd 12
141: 2-2 - rd 12
149: 3rd
157: 3rd
165: 1-2 - 2-2
174: 4th - 6th
184: 2-2 - rd12
197: 3rd
Hwt: NQ

That said, at this point of the year I think we see something more like this:
125: 1st-3rd
133: 7th-8th
141: 5th-857th
149: 1st
157: 2nd
165: 7th-rd12
174: 2nd-373rd
184: 6th-8th
197: 1st-292nd

Way too early for this sort of thing. That said, I have been very surprised and pleased with how we have wrestled so far. Zain and Cutch have been very aggressive right out of the gate. Zain could do it all....but didn't always. Cutch was a mystery until the end of the year. It seems like they have transformed their approach to every match. Rasheed is definately a big step in the same direction. Nickal and Nolf were already of the attack cloth.

Fun to watch. This is going to be one exciting year in college wrestling.

agree, too early - need to see what happens at the scuffle and after a few big10 matches...

It's never too early to get excited. This team is a bunch of go getters. This team has a great mix of characters.
125. Mr Consistency
133. Will battle you to the end
141. Super Talent needs to believe
149. The BAGUBA (Brutally Aggressive Guy Unobstructed By Adversity)
157 The Aggressor
165 The New Kid
174 The Level headed Lever
184 The Kid who learned a great new move
197 The Chill
285 We have your back, Thank you for helping us.

This type of team has excitement written all over it!!!

141 - Super talent needs to believe?

I think sometimes Jimmy's 4 state titles hang around his neck like an albatross.

JG is a talented wrestler, but 'super talent' is something reserved for the David Taylors and Ed Ruths of the world. Their talents separated them from the field. I don't think Gulibon will ever do that even if he believes more in himself.

More than believing in himself, Jimmy needs to learn to finish his shots better when he gets in deep. I agree he is talented enough to win the NC, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he leaves PSU without a crown.

I'll rank them on probability of reaching AA status...

DISCLAIMER: These predictions are just for fun!

1. McIntosh .
2. Retherford
3. Megaludis
4. Nolf
5 Nickal
6 Gulibon
7 McCutcheon
8 Conaway
9 Rasheed
10 Johnson

I love what I've seen from Jordan and Matt, but they are at arguably two of the toughest weights. Rasheed may climb this list as the season goes on, he seems really close.

I looked at this according to FLO's Nov 16 rankings, so they may have changed a bit, but in dual meets (not including tournaments), the ranked guys that our wrestlers will take on are:
Nico 11, 6, 1, 15
Conaway 3, 9, 8, 7, 6, 17, 13 (ouch!)
Gulibon 14, 8, 18, 11
ZPain 5, 1, 14, 10, 18
Nolf 11, 14, 1, 6, 9
Rasheed 2, 19, 5, 18, 9, 12
Nickal 12, 8, 20, 1, 11
Mouse 6, 18, 12, 10, 7
Smack 11, 5, 17
Johnson 14, 11, 3, 17, 15

Conaway seems to have the toughest row to hoe, while McIntosh seems to have an easier dual challenge ahead.

And while it's impossible to wrestle everyone at the Scuffle, the following are the rankings of guys whose teams will be at this tournament (using Intermat Rankings).

125: 5, 8, 10, 11, 15, 18, 19, 20
133: 4, 6, 9, 12, 15, 19

Note: Some are currently out of action due to injuries, so this list will change.

165. No.
If you don't think Gulibon places, then which 8 guys do you think finish ahead of him?

I'll spot you McKenna and, what the heck, Ashnault. After that, there's a real good case to be made against every single wrestler at 141.

Thanks for doing the work. Given many would expect Jordan to be a 7-12 wrestler we should have a pretty good idea by season's end exactly where he belongs seedwise.

Is that #14 at 165, instead of #4?

The same Ashnault that Kade Moss had on the ropes last winter at the RAC or a different version?
