How many scholarships are available.....

But it seems that with the early signing period locking in to other programs many of what in the past would have been later cycle targets CJF may not find the players between now and February to use every available scholarship. I don't believe that's a big deal as with the top tier talent he has coming in players will be able to play earlier in their careers at PSU, and the NFL defections will now be common, almost like they are at oh-high-ya....

In past years CJF would now be making a few offers to players committed to (but not yet signed by) programs such as MD, IU, pitt, ...., but instead may end up holding a scholarship or two. That is one of the disadvantages of the early signing period to the traditional P5 powers....

They should give Checa a schollie.

As soon as he goes a whole game without kicking a KO out of bounds....:(

He may have a hard time keeping his job if CJF opens up the KO competition again in Fall practice. Isn't CJF bringing in two more walk on kickers....

I'll never understand walk on kickers. They're such an important part of the team, yet they don't get scholarships and have to prove themselves first. What s joke.

High school kickers are difficult to evaluate for a number of reasons, primary being that most kick (FGs and XPs) of of tees.

you are correct that the early signing period has eaten into the ability to flip players. you have to be in with these guys from the start to get sign them for Feb. There are about 30 players in the Rivals 250 list that are not signed - some are verbal commits and some are open. Many list PSU on their offers and coaches they talked with re offer - but that may not matter now. none of us probably have any idea to what extend JF is in on any of them. we still need DT and OT for sure.

according to Tom Luginbill over 70% of all the scholarships in D1 were signed in the early period. Many teams are already capped out with 28 players signed. it would appear that JF can sign 10 more players in the Feb period with latest defections. hopefully he is in a position to get some more talent.
