How Nick Saban revived Alabama

giphy.gif

Saban put together the good ole boy network of out bidding any other school for some key players. he is a great coach, no doubt about that. But Bama is close to as dirty as they come. No different than when Pete Carroll made USC a powerhouse for his time there and guys driving around in $50,000 cars and Reggie Bush moving into a new house.

Remember, you don't have to pay every player on the team top dollar. Just need a few elite guys to get over the hump. Think about PSU this year. Add in an elite MLB & safety on defense and an elite tackle on offense (only 3 players) and PSU beats OSU and MSU and comes down to the Michigan game for the Big Ten title.

I mean we just had a thread about this so I'll try to sum it up.

'Bama ain't cheatin - they're so good and have the best everything so they have no reason to cheat.

But they've been caught cheating in the past and were put on probation.

Show me the proof they're cheating now otherwise they're not cheating.

Bagmen don't leave evidence, but here are pictures of their recruits flashing wads of cash, and former players saying what they were offered.

Those cash and cars don't prove 'nuffin. The cash could be from grants and 4 year old dodge chargers aren't that expensive so they could have been paid for with federal grants.

They cheatin ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I read this earlier -- good article. BUT I doubt this approach (old school hard line) would be tolerated on 97% of college campuses today -- especially in view of what happened at the University of Maryland and the PC views on campuses across the nation.

Money-based corruption seems to be OK with too many as well -- especially in the realm of basketball recruiting.

If it was just about being a hard ass coach there would be more than one program like Alabama. That's not it. And it's why Saban was average at MSU.

You forgot the part about affordable car leases in today's world. o_O

7/22 - Alex Trebek's birthday
2/20 - Rihanna's birthday
8/29 - Michael Jackson's birthday
6/24 - Lionel Messi's birthday
7/25 - Matt LeBlanc's birthday
7/26 - Sandra Bullock's birthday
7/25 - Estelle Getty's birthday
7/26 - Mick Jagger's birthday
5/23 - Drew Carey's birthday
9/26 - Serena William's birthday
10/27 - John Cleese's birthday
18/31 - There is no such date
12/25 - Christmas
10/23 - Weird Al's birthday

Now what does that have to do with Alabama football?

I have no idea what Bama is or is not doing but you have to wonder when there are repeated social media pics of players with wads of cash and cars.

The fact the NCAA just ignores it (but yet cracks down on women’s golf players washing their car from a hose at an athletic building) is just crazy.

LOL. How about this then?

2019 - 7/22
2018 - 2/20
2017 - 8/29
2016 - 6/24
2015 - 7/25
2014 - 7/26
2013 - 7/25
2012 - 7/26
2011 - 5/23
2010 - 9/26
2009 - 10/27
2008 - 18/31
2007 - 12/25
2006 - 10/23

These numbers represent recruiting class years. The first column is the number of players in a recruiting class from the state of Alabama (because keeping in-state talent is one key to Saban's success IMO). The second is the number of players TOTAL in a given recruiting class. Note you can only have 85 scholarship players at any given time. In the last four years (2015 - 2018_, not counting the 2019 class (since this year isn't finished), Bama has recruited 98 players. By comparison, Penn State has recruited 89 (per Rivals). Saban's first year at Bama was in 2007 - in his first four recruiting classes (2007 - 2010) he recruited 109 players.

There was an old saying that "while Britannia ruled the waves, she also waived the rules." Once a law has been set and people comply with it, the bold lawbreakers will be the winners.

Also, how do they get so many 5 stars to come knowing there are 5 stars already starting ahead of them. Pretty much no other school can do that. I get they want to play for championships, but not too many high profile high school suds want to sit the bench to get a championship (unless the money is right).

By cheating, which he couldn't do as well in the B10.

It would not surprise me to learn one day that Saban left MSU because he realized that the conference was solely about Delaney's Darlings. He had a much better chance to show his coaching prowess in the SEC than in the Big Two.
