Lugo has been looking pretty good as of late. Would like to see him and Berge go at it again (wishful....)

I'm missing why this is something to make fun of HR about...

Austin Desanto has wins over 2 NCAA champs and 3 other finalists. Why wouldn't Iowa fans see him as a contender/finalist?
Mainly because he’s never been a finalist and when March rolls around it’s fairly clear he’s second tier compared to his competition, according to my opinion and his performance at big 10 this past year. Yet, HR consistently pencils him on Saturday night in March when that seems like a bolder move each year with the 133 pound competition.

Surprised by the Kem and Marinelli results. Thought both of them would win due to size and strength alone.

Gantt exploited Kemerer's lack of feel in regards to positioning in freestyle. He racked up 6 or 8 exposure points off of Kems shots. Very smart match by Gantt.

Green and Marinelli was very competitive. Marinelli was the aggressor, but Green did Green things and hit a very nice 4 pointer. The Bull probably could have bailed on the shot defense and just gave up two, but that's not really who he is.

Also thought that the challenge was ill-advised. Seemed like an obvious 4 to me, and I am no freestyle savant... Put Marinelli in a position that he now needed to get a 4 pointer himself, or 3 more scores in short time.

Young is a finalist again because he TFed Jeremiah Moody, I saw that take also a few places.

Over on The Mat, at least one poster is saying "Kerk won't bonus Cass because he briefly held off being teched by Gwiz".

I am very confused by the logical leaps that take place to make that assessment.

I would not be surprised to see the four plus AD or JW make the finals. Young Cass has finalist talent, but 285 is one heck of a weight class these days. Iowa is loaded for bear no matter how you slice it imo. I was very impressed with Murin and I won't be shocked if he ends up a top 3-4 guy either and we all know Young is a stud having to cut a bit more than what would be ideal due to the talent at 165/174 in the Iowa room. I really think Young is a top 5 guy at 165 if he were somewhere else. I don't like Iowa, but individually these guys are all very good wrestlers and from what I know very good guys.

Cassioppi won't beat any of the top 3 in the Big Ten but anyone else is fair game.

To put the Desanto comments in context, he got abused with exposures in scrambles where he was clearly uncomfortable and inexperienced. Not surprising to see fans with folkstyle bias think it goes differently in folkstyle. I don't agree, but it would definitely be much closer on the scoreboard.

Consistently surprised that this board sees fans on another board think that their guys are really good and sees that as some sort of gotcha and not just the basic nature of being a sports fan. Happens on here all the time.

Fwiw, the quality of competition last night was much steeper than the most recent NLWC event. The toughest opponent from there (Skatzka imo) wouldn't have even been the toughest opponent on the undercard (not counting Meredith who wrestled in both).

LOL, you need to give us a break on this one.

It's not easy for the NLWC to bring in world class competition. Most of the world class wrestlers are already in the room. :)

I'd argue that there's a high likelihood he doesn't make the semi-finals this year. He'll likely take 3 in-conference losses, maybe 4, before the B1G tournament, if Iowa wrestles PSU, Michigan, tOSU and Minnesota. He might not even make the B1G semi-finals.

Then, after he takes 4 or 5 losses, he'll be seeded accordingly in the NCAAs. Given how few matches most people will likely have this year, he could be like 10-5 on the season. Now, the coaches will undoubtedly take the quality of his opponents into criteria, but things aren't

I keep waiting for the NLWC vs HWC rumors only to have Brands duck..... again? If it proves the NCAA season is at risk once we move through flu season (Nov-Feb), I would love to see that one happen, let's start the groundswell.

If the NCAA decides to cut the Natty field down to 16-20, is Cass at risk of not making the dance?

He'd have to get an at large, right? He might be the 4th or 5th best heavy in the country--maybe coming in ranked 3rd. That would be crazy.
