If the NCAA decides to cut the Natty field down to 16-20, is Cass at risk of not making the dance?

He'd have to get an at large, right? He might be the 4th or 5th best heavy in the country--maybe coming in ranked 3rd. That would be crazy.

The only way he comes in ranked 3rd this year is if he a) doesn't wrestle Kerkvliet, Parris or Steveson AND b) one or more of those takes a bad loss or two.

Hell, I could actually see that as a viable strategy for him.

BFD he was the #3 seed last year, he could VERY well end up #4 from BIg10 THIS year. Is that a lock to make Nationals?
Will there still be “at larges” if we get cut back to 16 man brackets?

I meant coming in to the season. Kerkvliet won't end up where he starts, obviously. He could (will) pass big Cass, as could (maybe) Schultz. Wood maybe. I sure hope that whatever seeding/pool the NCAA comes up with, they won't pass a top 5 guy to distribute the allocations evenly. That would be pretty sad.

You're being obtuse. #4 in the big 10 would almost certainly make him #4 in the country and a lock to make nationals. I don't know if you know much about how allocations work, but with the top 5 guys (Gable, Parris, Kerk, Cass, Hillger) all being in the big ten, a 4th place finish is a lock to qualify. He would need to take several losses outside that group to DNQ, and finish outside the top 6 at big tens for that to be a possibility.
