I am sorry, but I now think it's the greatest match in NCAA history.

If you had been there to see the match live, you would understand why it is still the greatest NCAA finals match to this day. The atmosphere in the arena that night was incredible. Both wrestlers had pinned their way to the finals and everyone knew it was going to be a battle. I've seen many, many matches since then and I still think it was the most exciting match I've ever seen.

However, that being said, I definitely agree that the Joseph vs Imar final is one of the best ever. I was watching it in a sports bar and I jumped out of my chair and slammed both palms down on the table. I got a few wierd looks but so what. I'm sure everyone on this board felt the same way.

I cannot find a good cut on youtube of the Owings Gable match. Nothing with the ABC commentary, just stock film, and it's grainy and without sound.

I think Rob Koll won his state championship in Hershey. You may have seen him wrestle at Rec Hall for the Challenge of Champions (AA vs. AAA state champs) though.

Rob Koll won his state title in 1984 in Hershey. Dave Koll won in '77. Maybe states were at Rec Hall in '77. I don't know (and too lazy to look). Rob won his in Hershey, for certain.

What makes a match great is when the wrestler that gets pinned is a great wrestler and loses on the biggest stage of the NCAAs. Joseph pinned a great wrestler in Martinez. It reminded me when Gadson put Snyder on his back for his pin. Jenkins pin of Taylor was pretty impressive also. Still the greatest pin I ever saw was when Rohn caught Lembrecht with Cement job in 2002 when losing 14-3.
The greatest match I saw in person that did not end in a pin was when Daryl Burley as a freshman for Lehigh lost to Randy Lewis 14-13 in Grace Hall.

All good stuff! Burley vs. Lewis especially!
