I mean at the end of the day it was a bunch of things.

The biggest one broadly speaking is that we were first (and everyone was still alive).

The actions of university leadership are a blueprint for exactly the opposite of how you handle this (and how every subsequent scandal was handled pretty much 180 from our response). They bent over and took it thinking it was the quickest path to the other side instead of realizing they were branding the university with a scarlet letter that will endure in perpetuity. The NCAA also decided it was a good time to start venturing into territory way above their pay grade, learned their lesson after the cluster**** it turned into and never got involved in anything subsequently.

If either of those scandals broke prior to Sandusky with Bo/Woody alive and actively coaching instead of dead for 15 years in Bo's case or 30 in Woody's, and Anderson/Strauss alive and standing trial publicly, doing 60 minutes interviews and going for walks in their UM/OSU tracksuits, instead of also deceased for 15+ years each, things probably play out differently. Both for them and us.
