I Don't Think PSU Will Miss Garrett Sickles At All

James Franklin has taken grad transfers in the past. Kevin Reihner was a grad transfer. So, the answer is not zero.

Anthony Averett was foolish to sign with Bama. He'll soon realize, as well as the rest of the Bama team, that the USS Saban is taking on water. I see Averett being a grad transfer to PSU as a walk-on.

The reason the Averett is at Bama is because Bill O'Brien couldn't be bothered to recruit him.

As far as being a grad transfer, there is the small matter of getting a release from Nick Saban and finding $50K or so to attend PSU.

Except that Reihner was on scholarship and it doesn't appear that PSU will have any available next year.

That's a parody of the OP, Art.

The only true experts are on this board.

Sickels won't be missed because he wasn't that good, even though he was voted Team Defensive MVP. By the people who matter.

Sickens shouldn't leave early for the NFL because he's not ready/will be a late pick/will be a UFA, although he received a report that convinced him he should declare. From the people who matter.

Brown will be a backup to goodness knows who, although he was 2nd team behind a graduating SR this year.

Cothran will move to DE even though he was (arguably) our most disruptive force at DT this year.

And on, and on.....

My apologies. Realized that it was likely the case a few minutes after I posted my response. What can I say; mind is still a little numb from a four hour dosage of Fowlstreit.

Losing two from positions of depth "should" not be a problem. WR depth is pretty impressive and DE is not far behind. The only area of small concern is at LB (2 of 3 starters return), we do have three backups that have played a decent amount.

Sickels was 2nd team all B1G. Schwan was 3rd team. It's silly to say that PSU won't miss those guys. The only question is how fast will the replacements get up to speed.

Cothran did well at DT so why move him to DE? Besides, he's awfully big for a DE.

I could definitely see Toney moving to LB. I'm sure he's grown since the roster was published but he's only listed at 195lbs. The staff has to do something because I'd hate to count on freshmen to play the position the next few years. I'm curious how J. Thomas has done this year.

Godwin & Sickels didn't create room for 2 graduate transfers. If Smith & Davis remain on scholarship we are currently at 88.
Cothran is taller and lighter than Bama starting DE Jonathan Allen (6-3, 295), and the other Tide DEs are about the same size (DeShawn Hand is 6-5, 280). I too wonder why Thomas isn't moved to backup STAR replacing Von Walker. He isn't needed at RB with Barkley, Sanders, Robinson, Allen.

If Sickles and Godwin had stayed, Penn State would have been at 85 w/incoming frosh. They left, which is why I said that they have 2 openings.

"Works hard?" Nah, just comes naturally to Schwenksville Jhonnie.

Now, if you wanna see him work hard, just check him out trolling the single-mom websites. Not even Saban shows that kind of obsessiveness.
Or look for Alzheimer Artie using his one remaining brain cell to troll for underage girls. Poor Artie, his Alzheimer condition prevents him from knowing how old the young girls are. His Mommy should go into his basement apartment and help him search sites of female prisoners.

Well, some folks like palehorse are just too stupid to have an intelligent response.

**Automated response** You have exceeded your allowable quota of effort required for responses from this poster. Quotas, while fluid, are in direct proportion to the value you add to the board.

I think PSU has 68 scholarship players returning at this point if you count Davis & Smith. 18 verbals = 86.

LOL, what the hell?

Big Ten allows you to go three over in the spring.

I understand that but why would a school intentionally go over by three if they didn't plan to process some kids? It seems to me that you would decide in advance that certain scholarships might not be renewed in the fall. Isn't that the "processing" some have complained about?

Well that's projecting. The reason you get down to 85 does not NECESSARILY need to be processing.

Call it what you want. It's telling underclassmen that they've lost their scholarship.

No, it is not. Not NECESSARILY. If a player transfers because that player wants more playing time, that is not processing.

Assume a school has 88, needs to get down to 85, and 3 kids suddenly decide to transfer. You can tell yourself that the kids just wanted more PT but I think most people are able to see that was more than a coincidence.

Or the kid wanted to play. When a kid has a doctor forge a "career ending injury" that turns out to NOT be career ending, that's a bit different.
