Caught the last 10 minutes of the UK-AU game yesterday. I wondered if the payroll of those teams was more than most European professional teams. Then I see the Auburn coach is none other than the previously suspended Bruce Pearl, and aha, now I realize why Auburn is suddenly a basketball school. It was tough to figure out which team I wanted to win. I went with Auburn because I figured there was a slightly greater chance (>80%) they will eventually forfeit whatever championship or wins they accumulate. Does Auburn not already have one or two assistant coaches suspended for the recruiting scandal currently in court? And then I see they have the proven previous cheater Chris Webber from the Fab 5 announcing the games. I had to take a shower after the game was over.
And this doesn't take into account Zion Williamson in the Duke game. Or MSU and their systemic cover-up that occurred just this year and does not get mentioned even once.

I don’t know why you have a beef with Chris Webber. He’s the once 18 year old that was being taken advantage of. As for working in TV, good for him.

I wish I had your level of moral superiority. I am but a lowly urchin, just trying to get through the muck. I appreciate your enlightenment and hope one day to achieve a level of fastidiousness regarding the mis-deeds of others so that I may cast dispersions against them so I may maintain my superiority.

Why is expecting people not to violate the rules a "moral superiority" worthy of being mocked? Why can't we just set an expectation that people will follow the rules, and not, instead, condemn those who call out others for not doing so?

And it's aspersions, not dispersions.

It's only April 1, but we have an early nominee for dumbest post of the month.

can't disagree...however, as a Penn St fan, I wouldn't be so fast to trust the press regarding Duke "scandals" specifically. Second, if this is the first year you felt dirty watching college sports, you haven't been paying much attention.

It is aspersions, not dispersions - you are correct.

As far as "expecting people to not violate the rules", that is fine. It's another matter to stand on the proverbial soapbox and point it out. If the OP didn't feel comfortable with the teams on the TV - then turn it off and go about your business. No reason to start a thread about it. He has opened himself up for ridicule and rightfully so. Even from a lowly urchin like me.

If watching the games causes you this much grief them I'm not sure why you are watching them.

You know how it is. He is forced to watch the games. First, he's OUTRAGED. that he's forced to watch games that make him feel dirty. Second, he's OUTRAGED. that watching them makes him feel dirty.

Life is hard.

What did Zion do. You breezed by that so I assume you had nothing to fit your weird rhetoric

The Elite 8 was pretty good, but I'm glad to know there's a possibility I'll need a shower in my future.

I didn't and I like Izzo. Dantonio and Lou Ann on the other hand....
Of all the michy people I actually like Webber.
What did Zion Williamson do except have a really good tournament?

webber is well-spoken, but it's a bad look to have him broadcasting these games. TNT needs to take a timeout and rethink his employment.

I firmly believe believe that we should all condemn anyone that has any expectations whatsoever.

Why root for any of them? I played for years and have been a life long BB fan, but being a PSU fan it's hard to get too excited about the NCAA as the years have gone by. So I was just rooting for Auburn, so that there would be an uptick in the entertainment from Sir Charles Barkley during the pregame and half time shows........

And a FYI, that was not the Final 4 you were watching yesterday..... ;)

Happy to report I have watched exactly zero minutes of March Madness. I consider college basketball a farce, with its one-year-and-done silliness, and with the scandal that lifted the shroud off the reality of college basketball sleaze.

I watch college basketball and football the way I watch any other professional sport. I have no routing interest for any team but just want to be entertained.

The mistake that people make is creating an emotional attachment to a given team. It is very irrational, unless you have a personal relationship with the people involved.

LOL, wut?

If I'm understanding you correctly, your stance is that if someone is violating the rules, or the law, instead of pointing that out and discussing it, you should just ignore it? Move on and concern yourself with something else, or you will be ridiculed for your insolence? That's your story and you're sticking to it?

Yikes.

I agree...except I understand the emotional attachment to your college alma mater. I also agree that you can still be emotionally attached to a college based on their "brand". There is a huge difference between UM, tOSU and PSU. However, that is eroding as college football becomes more and more like the NFL. At some point, you've got to realize the pro teams are simply exploiting you. the teams and players have as much loyalty to you as Liz Taylor had with her many husbands.

And I'm the exact opposite. If I don't have a connection to a team or a rooting interest in them or who they are playing I don't watch.
I make a lot of "mistakes" that is not one of them.

Nothing came of that, and it is not an allegation that has showed up elsewhere. In modern political parlance, I'd call it an "unverified dossier".

I hate to see a young man or a highly regarded coach and basketball program trashed if information is not solid.
Agree Roy....being through what we've been through as Penn Staters, having watched the Duke lacrosse issues, and seeing the status of the MSM these days I have no idea what or whom to believe anymore. But unless I see the physical proof, myself, am hesitant to draw too many conclusions.

I'm sure it's all just a misunderstanding.

Let's take the OUTRAGE. (MORAL. HIGH. GROUND. ) a step farther. If we assume the kansas conversation to be true, did zion really want to work or did he want to get paid for a no-show job? I doubt he was really looking to work for money.

Of course, now the question that must be answered, and most likely won't be, is how zion ended up at duke.

Anyone who thinks that players like Zion don't get paid under the table (not necessarily by Duke) is dreaming. Go google Cory Magette or Lance Thomas.

It is what it is. All the big boys do it. I'm not singling out anybody; it's just a coincidence that all three players are from Duke.

In other words, burn duke basketball down to the ground.

LionJim, I am very familiar with those cases and Duke Basketball in general.

It is a clean program.
