I told you all Notre Dame was the bastion of hypocrisy! Trying to ban a Chick-fil-A from being located on campus! Ah yes, Christian hypocrisy!

A group of students and faculty at an elite Catholic university say they don’t want Chick-fil-A to open a restaurant on their Indiana campus because of the restaurant chain’s frequent donations to Christian groups.

Roughly 180 University of Notre Dame students and faculty have signed an open letter calling on the school’s Campus Dining division to nix the proposed new shop.
The movement gained steam after two undergrad students wrote a letter to the editor to the Observer, a college newspaper, titled "Keep Chick-fil-A away," Campus Reform reported Monday.
CHICK-FIL-A IS AMERICA'S TOP FAST FOOD SPOT FOR 7TH-STRAIGHT YEAR
The letter writers, Tilly Keeven-Glascock and Joey Jegier, accused Chick-fil-A of donating millions to "queerphobic groups," which they said include the nonprofit Fellowship of Christian Athletes. And they objected to owner Dan Cathy’s personal donations to organizations like the National Christian Charitable Foundation, which they alleged "funds hate groups."
Fox News reported in 2019 that Chick-fil-A said it would no longer donate to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Salvation Army because of similar criticisms and had cut off other groups as early as 2012.
Keeven-Glascock and Jegier also claimed that because the restaurant chain gets its food from industrialized farming, it’s bad for the environment, "deplorable" and places a "burden" on "marginalized communities."
"North America has an obsession with meat like no other country on Earth and it is helping destroy the planet," wrote the duo, a university senior and junior.
NEW YORK DEMOCRATS ACCUSE CHICK-FIL-A OF DISCRIMINATION, WANT TO BAN IT FROM REST STOPS
They also argued that Chick-fil-A’s menu of "fried chicken and potatoes…does not supply an array of options suitable for a diverse campus community" and argued vegans and vegetarians "would receive little benefit."
In their letter to the editor, Keeven-Glascock and Jegier included a link to the open letter attempting to strong-arm the school’s Campus Dining to reconsider choosing Chick-fil-A.
In addition to more than 150 students, at least 26 faculty members had signed the document as of Tuesday evening.
"Students at other universities, such as NYU and Northeastern, have made headlines in their attempts to block Chick-fil-A," they wrote. "We have no plans for such a large-scale disruption; rather, we wish to resolve this concern before it transforms into a larger controversy."
Notre Dame and Chick-fil-A did not immediately respond to Fox News requests for comment.
Chick-fil-A was founded in Georgia in 1946 and since then has been closed on Sundays because its founder, Truett Cathy, refused to force his employees to miss a day of rest and worship.

I don’t listen to students except about mobile phones and music. Public policy? They haven’t learned anything about life yet

Lol. Now the menu has to be diverse?
Was thinking the same thing. I absolutely respect anybody’s decision about what they eat or don’t eat, but why do so many vegan/vegetarian types not extend the same courtesy? And why does everything have to be for everyone? I’m not a coffee drinker, but I’m not organizing a petition against Starbucks because they lack diversity.

Yeah fox is a little too far out over their skis on this one.

my daughter went to college at a school whose principal benefactors included CFa and the catheys. Great to have sandwich access on czz as mouse.

Vocal minority of students once again trying to force their will upon the entire student body. Faculty? No surprise there. Recall that a good number of the faculty at Duke University chose to demonize those Lacrosse players without evidence and then ended up with egg on their faces. Everyone likes friend chicken and fries. What is needed is more diversity in faculty and less groupthink within their numbers.

I think there really is a silent majority who are getting to the point where they won't be silent much longer when you have a few dictating to the rest of us what we can and can't do when its not a question of legality. Don't like CFA don't go - that's the best way to teach them a lesson and if most people believe the same way they will close up shop soon enough and point proven.

180 students and faculty compared to the rest of the campus population is nothing. The administration should push forward with the franchise. Those 180 don't have to eat that food.

It’s the political center of the country - the ones who agree on almost all common sense policies - and who are underrepresented in government. Because they are open to compromise and finding common ground, they’re ignored in favor of base rattling rhetoric and all or nothing policy initiatives. Because that is what gets press and ignites partisanship.

I’m left of center and am tired of these kinds of policy changing/posturing efforts. There is a better way to engage with those you don’t agree with. I’m having CFA right now too. Seriously.

"Chick-fil-A’s menu of 'fried chicken and potatoes…does not supply an array of options suitable for a diverse campus community'" says people who have obviously never been inside a Chik-Fil-A, and those who do not know the history of fried chicken in America: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_chicken
I’ve eaten at Chik Fil A five or so times while traveling over the last month. Had a salad with grilled chicken every time.

totes....but it is the media doing this, IMHO. This issue is really a non-story but the media makes it look like it is millions of people and the idiot kids keep doing it while the testical-less administration is too balless to them to STFU lest they, their families and their jobs are threatened.

There is a local story that the mayor of a suburb got eviscerated in the local news for shutting down a program where a hotel had housing over a hundred homeless people during the pandemic. I guess they thought free housing at a 3.5 star hotel was going to go on forever.

Wonder if they went the the CFA Peach Bowl they'd still go?

And then this "The letter writers, Tilly Keeven-Glascock and Joey Jegier, accused Chick-fil-A of donating millions to "queerphobic groups,"

One I hate when the put use "phobic" no one is scared of them.....that said why would you go to a Catholic University in the first place if you were concerned about it. I mean the Catholic Church is pretty set in their feelings on Homosexuality.

Doesn't eating diversity come from having multiple restaurant choices rather than a single restaurant offering every possible food choice? Apart from certain diners that I've been to with menu tomes, I'm hard-pressed to come up with a restaurant that would offer a sufficiently diverse selection.

On the side....we usually see the visiting teams post game Chick Fil A meal bags on a large tab by their locker room. One of the local locations must be cranking those out in order to be ready at that time

Pretty much any diner in Philly/NJ. I mean, you can get a Western omelet, spaghetti and meatballs, a cheesesteak, a steak dinner, hot dogs, Caesar salad, and fish and chips all in one place ;).

"You see kids, Catholicism is under the umbrella of Christianity. No, seriously, it is. And this is a Catholic University. No, seriously, it is. So when you chose to attend this University, you implicitly accepted those precepts. There are a bunch of small colleges and community colleges down the road that would be happy to have you if these facts are no longer acceptable to you".

So a restaurant needs to have a food option for EVERYONE in order to open up on campus? Got it. Hope these 180 enjoy eating in the cafeteria every meal.

(they have way too much time on their hands if this is what they're all hot and bothered about)

I ate lunch at a Thai place the other day and was both shocked and spiritually wounded by the by the absence of tacos from the menu. Fortunately, the ginger perfect with chicken was outstanding and both soothed and healed my injured soul.

Reminds me of the old lefty (faulty logic) addage...

Don't like abortion? Don't have one.
well....
Don't like chic-fil-a? Don't eat there.
Of course, in this day and age, the left has abandoned civil liberty and has descended to coercion and totalitarianism. (NOTE TO TOM: This isn't politics. This is a statement of fact that no one disputes and relevant to the topic.)

Whatever you feelings, it is pretty amazing to see faculty/students at THE Catholic University up in arms regarding a company/owner that holds Christian values.

It's weird they're outraged about how a restaurant makes donations yet they attend a university affiliated with a religion which has its own laundry list of problems.
Isn't that the truth. As a Catholic (Greek rite, Slavonic and Georgian) I gave up on the RC Church a long time ago. Nothing but a bunch of fuking hypocrites led by the double horned mitre wearing asshole. Still to this day pedophile abuse is being discovered after being intentionally hidden by church officials and who have also been using funds intended to grow the church to pay off court settlements. Just when I didn't think I could despise ND more, they again exceed my expectations.

Hate Starbucks political crap but do love their coffee.
Exactly. As it should be. We don’t have to agree with every frickin stance (political or otherwise) that somebody or some entity holds to have a relationship with them/it. Starbucks is out of my orbit so I have no idea what the political stances you speak of may be, but dammit, if I liked coffee, id sure as hell not let them keep me from a good cup of jo. I just don’t understand why so many people live so far out on the edge that they seemingly miss a lot of the good stuff in life out of some completely misguided and unnecessary spite.

Less likely the ”Catholics”, and more likely the the liberal progressives to whom the “Catholics” ( and most other “bastions of learning”)have ceded power.

University, that was once considered the citadel of free thought and expression, has become intolerant and venal.
I liked it more when the worst thing one could be on a college campus was close minded. Frankly, I don't think one can truly educated until they have been exposed to a wide range of ideas, particularly ideas different from those they currently know and accept.

LMAO. I bet these 180 students/faculty members(the # made me laugh) are a lot of fun in life and have a lot of friends at parties among their peers.

What? Wild Turkey and No Patron?! Busch Light and Bud Light and no Dogfish Head?! Where is the diversity?
