I wonder how much Peyton got paid for saying he was going to drink Budweiser tonight?

I don't begrudge him getting paid for this, as it's no different than the old "I'm going to Disneyland" quotes that were popular a while back.

I thought the exact same thing once he said it. I don't think the Colorado Coors company will be too happy right now. ;)

They are soon to be the same company. Miller Coors and InBev (budweiser) going into a merger.

He owns some Bud interests...not sure if its a distributorship or what, but he's into Bud for a quite a few bucks. Also noticed the Papa John's guy was one of the first to congratulate him, on the field, after the game. Peyton owns several Papa John's franchises.

Everything in the NFL is scripted, everything (but, perhaps, the game). Trust me when I tell you that every single second after the game is planned and scripted to the hilt. See the guys throwing the "Super Bowl Champs" t-shirt over Peyton's shoulder during the interview and he doesn't even flinch? Scripted. Then the commercial for NFL clothing...right down to the second.

Why would he flinch? He's safe and people are constantly hitting eachother on the shoulder. He's a professional and he's giving an interview.

They wanted everyone to wear the shirts. He didn't. So I'd say it's not scripted.

LOL...you are always there to argue and be the ultimate contrarian...you take one small point. Listen, the entire time from the gun sounding to the time they shut off the lights of the stadium is scripted. Much of the game is scripted. just watch, there are guys running around putting hats on players, t-shirts on players, comments are scripted to make sure that the players thank the right people and sponsors, and so on and so fourth. NASCAR has a pretty gal stand next to the winner for no reason than to wear her "SPRINT" tightly fitting race outfit and he/she (if Danica ever wins one) makes sure he drinks the appropriate paid-for drink of the day.

You can disagree....but your wrong.

I'm not sure you understand what "scripted" means. Of course the events after the game are scripted. But, you're talking about a single player. Totally different things.

How much planning goes on beforehand with players to prepare for the post game when they win?

Not much. Just the staff pointing them telling them where to go after the game.

Don't agree at all. You think it was an accident that Papa John comes over and Peyton acknowledges him at that second? The shirt, which he can't wear until he gets his pads off, get tossed over his shoulder, his continuously mentioning budweiser? Super Bowl ads are $7,000,000 a minute. And that's when people get more food or go to the bathroom, there isn't more valuable time on TV than that 15 minutes after the game is over (before people turn off knowing the insufferable Colbert is about to come on). NFL fines players for wearing the wrong shoes, not having their socks pulled up, leaving their shirt untucked.....its all scripted.

Bud didn't pay him directly, it wasn't like the "gong to disneyland" thing...but Peyton has his own interests in Bud and that's why he said it....repeatedly.

Manning's investment portfolio includes part ownership of two Anheuser-Busch distributors in his native Louisiana; as you probably know, Anheuser-Busch brews Bud.
for all the Bud Peyton was going to drink last night, he looked fine this am in a live interview from California for the Today show. Hey maybe a lot for him is 2!

They reported last night that there was nothing to it, but maybe he was planting that long term seed in Bud's head.

He repeated the same script twice.

The first time in a sideline interview and the second time with the trophy.

He hit each of his bullet point answers each time. Among others in his "answer"...

Kiss his wife. Kiss his kids
Go drink Budweiser.

I believe NFL active players are banned from endorsing beer. Hence, it was scripted and perhaps a way to let some know this was it, without an announcement which would have taken away from the proper focus at the time.

Good observations marshall23.

Saying he was going to drink a few Buds is one thing...and apparently advanced his business interests. Actually drinking the swill, that's another story...and I'm not buying it.

Drinking Bud, thanking God, going to kiss the wife and kids ..........

are we sure Peyton isn't positioning himself for a run for the GOP nomination???
I wonder how many non family members he "kissed" last night

I didn't notice this during the actual broadcast ----- put as Oblivax noted earlier in this thread, Papa John was there IMMEDIATELY after the game. Video at the link.

Within the past 14mos. I assisted with activating a NFL entertainment/halftime-themed property in my largest accounts. I served as a liason between my customer, my company (an official sponsor of the NFL), and the promotion-specialist PR outfit contracted to conduct the event on behalf of my company and the NFL.

As you suspect *Every* opportunity for "impressions" is identified, quantified, and leveraged. These include large/obvious things from aesthetics and visuals/visibility/trademarks/camera angles... all the way down to the smallest details such as how and where packages appear, likewise who appears in-frame (and when). All a part of 21st century impression-science...you can safely bet that the act of tee shirts being draped over a shoulder is part of a highly-planned narrative... This little project certainly changed the way I view these events on TV.

Note how Budweiser state their denial: Payton Manning wasn't "paid" for the comment. Doesn't mean he wasn't rewarded in other ways. Regardless, he owns TWO Budweiser distributorships.

Peyton sold himself out years ago.. If he owns two Budweiser distributers, that makes it even more intentional. Good for him. Still pretty dorky though. He must talk about his sponsors in every interview he does.
